    I strongly believe that being active is one of the single most important things one can do to improve the quality of one's life. I became a personal trainer because I have years of first-hand experience with a wide variety of techniques for increasing strength, endurance, and flexibility. I wanted to share what I had learned as a result my own intense training to help others find joy in being active as well. In particular, I can assist with the following: 1) Starting an exercise program after a long layoff or return from injury. I have experienced numerous injuries myself during my life as a dancer and acrobat. As a result, I understand the need to balance pushing the body hard enough to make progress with being careful not to become injured again. 2) Developing a new strength training routine tailored to your specific goals. Whenever possible, I prefer to use exercises for strength training that use your own body rather than machines. Such exercises require you to use your balance which will strengthen your core muscles in a functional manner and also burn more calories because your whole body is working. Also, using minimal equipment means you can often do the workout anywhere, including at home, which is important for clients who do not enjoy going to gyms or just don't have the time to go to one. 3) Formulating a program to increase your endurance and stamina. I will help you determine what activities are best, how frequently, and how intensely you should do them to meet your particular fitness goals. It is important to not do exactly the same thing every day. Your body adapts quickly, and you will get better results by varying the duration, intensity, and even the type of endurance training you do. 4) Working on increasing flexibility to improve your performance and preventing injury. For each of my clients, I asses what stretches would be appropriate for a particular activity and flexibility level. I also pay particular attention to any joints he or she is having pain in. Even if you are not having pain now, you may later in life if you do not start a program of stretching while you are more mobile. 5) Losing or maintaining weight. Clients will find that working on all of the areas listed above will help with weight control. In my work, rather than focusing on the numbers associated with losing weight, I like to emphasize finding the joy in being physically active and how it makes you feel. Using that approach, your weight loss or maintenance goals will come more naturally, and being active will continue to be an enjoyable habit for the rest of your life.
