Faith is tutoring my child in 6th grade math. He communication is impeccable and she is prompt and on time. She came in with multiple tools and resources to help aide in the process. She is very personable with my child, always asking her things about her school life in general, not just the subjects they are working on.

I worked with Ayushe to prepare for the ACT a couple of months ago and it was a very positive experience. Ayushe was extremely flexible as to what worked and didn't work for me as a student, in focusing in areas that I was struggling in and explaining them in ways that weren't overwhelming. I was only tutored by Ayushe for two months, but I accomplished a lot in that short span of time. I am 24 And have been out of school for quite some time, so naturally I was slightly apprehensive about retaking a standardized test which covers material I hadn't put into practice for a while. Ayushe was very encouraging throughout the entire process and never made my goal seem too out of reach. I'm pleased to say that when I took the test in June, I achieved a score that was high enough that I got into the university in the UK that I was hoping to and I'm thrilled to return to student life in its Therapeutic Care program in the fall. I would absolutely recommend Ayushe as a tutor for the ACT. She is dedicated to helping students reached their individual goals and achieve as much success as possible on this test.

I recently needed a math tutor to help prepare me for a test to get into Graduate School. Finding Debbie was 'The Best' thing that happened to me! She was extremely flexible and professional and had such a peaceful/clear way of explaining problems to me. I had several 'light bulb' moments and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great math tutor!

About

Katja Korsch is a native and fluent German speaker who offers German lessons and tutorials. I am a native German who speaks, reads and writes fluently, so I am ideally situated to coach you, whether you are having difficulty in an existing German class at school or want to learn a new language from scratch. Because of my years of teaching experience, I understand that people learn and process new information in different ways, and I know how to adjust my teaching methods to suit an individual's learning style. In addition, I am exceptionally patient and believe that learning should be fun! I teach German in a way that allows you to actually use the language the very first day. I have a dynamic, interactive teaching style that will let you have fun learning the vocabulary and grammar rules and not be memorizing boring charts and tables that initially make no sense! I learned a long time ago that if something makes no sense, you will not remember it! Learning a language is a very organic experience, and is best learned (like many other things) by actually doing it, and having someone experienced coach you as you go along. This is where I have an edge over other German instructors: German is my first language so I have the built-in "ear". I know what it is really supposed to sound like not an Americanized version, but true and correct pronunciation. Learning and mastering a new language opens up a whole new world for you and allow me to help you!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:
