I hired Chef Rocco to give my 17 and 18 year old nieces a cooking lesson. He was informative, fun and interactive. The dishes we made were delicious and easy. He showed us proper knife skills and good kitchen organization. I would definitely recommend Chef Rocco for cooking lessons or as a private chef for your next party!

Chef Sat did a spectacular job for my girlfriend's birthday party! I had two previous chefs flake out on me, the first being completely unresponsive, and the second not answering a request for a quote and then going completely over budget. Sat stepped in with only a few days to organize, and was more professional and invested in the event than I could have hoped for. Sat listened carefully as I rambled about which ingredients I was hoping to include on the menu, and provided great feedback about what would be in season, what we would be able to find with good quality, and how we could break from a traditional menu in order to squeeze in as much variety as possible. He patiently revised his menu 4-5 times for me to address every detail I could throw at him - and, remember, this was all with under a week to plan the event. Sat also helped me rent dishware, and was very transparent about what would be needed, and what things would cost - this was a huge time saver. At the party, Sat was charismatic and charming. He thoroughly cleaned the entire kitchen and packaged all our leftovers while we ate. He fielded our questions about his background, cooking techniques, sourcing tools and ingredients. The Bottom line, I would hire Sat again in a heartbeat. Thanks for the wonderful evening!

Meenu taught a class at for our dorm @ Stanford University. We had a great time learning some of the basics about Indian spices and applying them in Indian cuisine. The dishes she prepared were fantastic. Meenu was very accommodating and did the lesson in our kitchen! All the ingredients she used were expertly chosen and she advised us on how to get started cooking Indian cuisine on our own!

My friends and I hired Julian for a mixology lesson, and he was simply outstanding! Julian suggested two great cocktails - the sazerac and the cherry blossom flip - and did a great job teaching, bartending, and creating a chill and fun atmosphere. He truly is jubilant - his warmth, sparkling personality, quick wit, and enthusiasm for his craft made for a truly memorable evening!

I took 2 private lessons with Chef Veena. And I learnt a lot and was totally amazed at her knowledge and her passion. I was taught exactly how to do prep work, then actual cooking and also tips to make the recipe and I was sent home with the dish I cooked with recipe booklet and assurance that she is always available to answer any queries/doubts I may have after trying it out at home. Tried I did and emailed her too for totally different dish that I did not learn from her. But she generously answered my queries. If you want to learn age old grandma recipes that tastes divine, then Chef Veena has those secrets... Meena

I requested for a pastry chef to make cookies and cupcakes for the Super Bowl- Keri sent me a quote and made amazing goodies! I wanted them to be Seahawks themed and she hand decorated all of the cookies with their logo. Everyone loved them and the cookies were way bigger than expected. Thanks again!

Jessica is the ULTIMATE in-home chef. It is hard to know where to begin. First, my husband and I loved the fact that every dish Jess made for us was healthy, delicious, and with a little twist of "something extra." Any veggie or "super food" you've been wanting to try but never knew how - Jess can take and whip up something fun, inventive, and satisfying. She was keen on tailoring menus to our specific taste preferences. When Jess cooked for us after our son was born, she was also knowledgeable about what foods would be best for a new aid stamina, healing, or the feeling of being totally well-cared-for. She was a huge help with meal planning as well, and left our home with a refrigerator-full of meals with clear and easy instructions for prep. In addition, Jess has prepared the food for a number of our dinner parties (6-8 people) and a family gathering (30+ people). Aside from an insanely delicious and memorable meal/spread, Jess is just simply the kind of person you want to have around. Her optimism, cheerfulness, and can-do attitude is contagious! Since having Jess as our "personal chef," my husband and I now put some of our cooking lessons to use on a daily basis...homemade almond milk, anyone? We wish we could have Jess cook EVERY meal for us! She will leave your family feeling full, happy, healthy, and ready to take on the kitchen.

Thanks to one of my colleagues who introduced Anita to me. She has been a true blessing to my kitchen and culinary skills. Apart from being an expert chef she is an amazing teacher. She has been mentoring me for for about 6 months now and the dishes I make under her guidance have always fetched me rave reviews of the superlative degree. She shares some of her great culinary secrets and techniques with me and follows through very patiently. She is very professional, takes my needs into consideration and devises each class with lots of enthusiasm and fervor. She is always punctual and has a very pleasing demeanor. She taught me to cook some mind blowing dishes in my very own kitchen :) thanks Anita from coming all the way to teach me. You have been a great source of inspiration to me.

I hired Chelsea to bake cupcakes and set up for a baby shower I was hosting. Chelsea helped me select the flavor combo for the cupcakes and they turned out delicious! She was on time delivering them and did a fantastic job carrying out my vision for the set up of the shower. She even did the floral arrangements. I strongly recommend Chelsea for catering or events. She's professional, punctual and personable. I plan on hiring her again for my future events.

I am not a seasoned cook and have a lot of sensitivities/health concerns. As a coach, she is knowledgable and patient in providing information. She helped me simplify my thinking about what to cook and how to shop efficiently. Anna's easy-going manner makes her fun to work with, and I've enjoyed her delicious dishes as well.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
