What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Training with Scott is a life changing experience. He is absolutely the best personal trainer I ever have. He is knowledgeable and responsible. I feel like I'm in good hands right after first session with him. I can be so focused on training cuz he has the processed planned for me. And when I have any question, I just text him, and he is soooo nice that he answer each one of them. I've been training with him for 3 weeks so far, I can feel my muscle growing and my body having more energy. I'm sure as long as I don't move too far, I'll keep training with him. I highly recommend him to anyone that want to switch to a more healthy life style and thinking of hiring a personal trainer to help achieve any fitness goal. Hands down the best trainer in bay area! My fiancé and I were looking to get into shape before our wedding and both of us had different fitness goals. Scott tuned our diet and workout according to our personal goals, which is not easy. From Day 1 he was amazing! He not only trains you physically, but also how to become strong mentally. I personally had not worked out for years and Scott's method of training was just great. He is very very very knowledgeable and knows exactly when to push hard and when to give some leeway. He provides you with all the personal attention you need. 4-5 weeks into training, our thought process for the workout changed completely from "just something we wanted to do before wedding" to overall health and fitness of the body. When it comes to a trainer, fitness and the gym, I was super intimidated by it all. I always felt nervous trying to get fit, especially feeling like I’m going to be judged by others. I have been training with Justin for about 5 months and I am very happy with the training I'm receiving. I started at 175 pounds/13.5% body fat, and currently am at 165/9.4%. My goals were to cut body fat and gain lean muscle but did not know anything about strength workouts or weight training. But, Justin understands my goals and provides me with tailor-made exercises that fit my level- they are not easy, because they shouldn't be, but each exercise challenges my limit and that makes me feel proud! I love working with Kendall! -She's passionate about fitness, nutrition, and an overall healthy lifestyle. If you have food items that you feel you can't live without, she'll help you work them into your diet in the best way possible. -Kendall is always on time! Even on the days I happen to arrive early, she's there waiting for me. -She's great about scheduling our time together and does a check-in with her clients every Sunday to reconfirm the schedule for the week. -Safety is her #1 priority in teach her clients how to lift weights and get into shape. She's always asking for feedback about feel, comfort, pain levels, etc. Only once I had to tell her about pain I was experiencing in my knee, and she immediately modified my motion to alleviate the pain. -Kendall is an excellent motivator and really helps you get past your own mental blocks about your body and losing weight. -She's honest about necessary commitment vs. personal goals and explains her rates/pricing really well. -The gym where she hosts clients is really the most intimidating part of the experience. On any given day you'll see people training and practicing for body building competitions. If you don't mind learning alongside the pros, you'll be fine. -Everyone at that gym also works out with a personal trainer, so it's a very comfortable experience being around people working on the same goals that you have -I am still in my first month training with Kendall but am already seeing results in how my clothes are fitting me. I'm really excited to continue seeing changes over the next few months! I train 4x per week with Kendall and believe it's worth every penny.

Justin is one of the most knowledgable personal trainers I have had the pleasure of getting to know and learn from. As a professional in the health field it was important to me to work with someone who understands the physiology of the body and could accommodate to my individual needs and goals. Justin is highly relatable and took the time to listen to and get to know what was important for me to achieve. Unlike the work of many other trainers I've seen, Justin had my best interests in mind at all times and was excellent at tailoring a client-specific program for diet and exercise that is unique, especially for me as a vegetarian. I have been active as an avid runner and did not need to make a drastic change, but I wanted a new challenge for myself to get stronger with strength training and he provided that. I felt myself getting stronger after just several weeks of working with Justin and that carried over into my work with my patients. At every session he was encouraging, motivating, varied the type of exercise, and safely forced me to push myself to a point I didn't think I could. He was accommodating to any minor injuries I had and adjusted the exercise regimens around them. Justin will provide the tools necessary to get to your goals, which you will, as long as you put in 100% effort on your end. It's hard work and he's with you along every step of the change. I highly recommend him to anyone at any point in their fitness journey! Had I not started training for another race I would have continued to work with Justin. I continue to implement the information learned from Justin in my daily life as I see fit and am extremely thankful to have had the pleasure to have him as my trainer.

I am very glad I chose Joe as my personal fitness trainer. With my demanding work schedule, sedentary lifestyle and vegetarian food habits, I needed someone who can provide a tailor made fitness regime at my doorstep -- and Joe is delivering just that. He adopts a practical approach towards weight loss, is very friendly and flexible with timings (sometimes even flexible with days). I was never a regular at gym before; but with Joe, I feel motivated to hit the road and demonstrate that incremental progress. He makes the workout interesting by alternating the workout locations between gyms, outdoors and hills, brings his own equipment and experiments different workout sequences based on what I can endure.My goal is to reduce 40-50 pounds by Dec2015. I've lost 7+ pounds in just about same number of sessions. Hopefully I'll reach my target with continued support and patience from Joe.
