The move was fast and easy. My only complaint is that the movers showed up without calling ahead so I wasn't completely ready when they arrived. I love they came early, I just wish I had gotten the heads up.

Sam and his movers were great! The biggest problem I had was an issue with their vehicle that resulted in them pushing back the move by nearly 4 hours, but Sam communicated this to me the night before, which allowed me to make new arrangements. He was incredibly apologetic and responsive, and included extra boxes for free for the hassle. On the day of, he and his movers were professional, capable and had a good attitude. Especially considering that I had packed a lot of things poorly, it's nothing short of a miracle that all of my items and valuables arrived safely. And the rate is unbeatable. They helped alleviate quite a lot of my stress, and for that I am very grateful and happy to be all set up in my new apartment!

The movers were on time (early, in fact) and did a great job. Loaded everything in an hour and unloaded in about an hour on the other side. They took great care of our things and had great attitudes. David was also very responsive and easy to work with. Minus one star because a mirror did not make it onto the truck from the old apartment. Luckily, I was able to go back and get it myself later in the day. Would definitely recommend these guys and use them again.

Philip, George and Nick were amazing. They seriously took so much stress out of my move - they were efficient, helpful and so sweet. I've had experiences with movers who were mean and unhelpful but these guys will definitely have me coming back again for my next move.

These guys are great. Very quick and efficient. Very professional guys who will go out of their way to make the most stressful day of your life that much less stressful. I moved one bedroom appartment from Brooklyn to the Bronx and these guys were done within 4 hours. Their prices are great and all my things got to our destination intact! I would definitely hire these guys again for my next move and will make sure to recommend them to anyone I know in need of movers.

The movers were professional and well organized. The price they quoted was great. The only thing I would caution any one about using this company is that you must be exact about the items being transported. Any items not listed you will be charged a little extra. So be very specific with the inventory list you send to the company prior to your move and don't forget to include the 20% gratuities they deserve it.

I was a "middleman" living in another state in facilitating a move of one piece of antique furniture from an unoccupied Manhattan apartment to a relative in Georgia. KP Quality Movers did a great job coordinating the pickup with my NYC realtor and the delivery in Georgia. The item had a removable marble top, which the movers crated for protection. The item was delivered in perfect condition. KP Quality Movers wisely delayed the move slightly to avoid encountering the effects of Hurricane Michael, while keeping the recipient informed of the delay. They delivered at the exact time ultimately promised. Their price was lower than most quotes I received, but I could not have asked for better service and results. I would not hesitate to use KP Quality Movers again.

Brig and his team were fantastic— friendly, prompt, rolled with the punches when there were changes to both the schedule and available parking. They came prepared with tons of blankets, wrap, tape and boxes which were much appreciated for my last minute items and other things I had overlooked/was underprepared for and they did an amazing job preparing my more fragile items for transport. Every. Single. Item. arrived in the exact same condition it started in, no scratches, no breaks, no wobbly loading or close calls. The guys have a great rapport with each other which translates into total efficiency in their process. Both of my dogs loved the whole crew, all three gents are fun to chat with during those inevitable stretches of waiting that happen during all moves and the pricing can’t be beat. While I plan to stay in my new digs for quite awhile, I will be spreading the word and recommending 3 Brothers Family Moving to anyone I encounter looking for recommendations for professional, affordable and kind movers here in the city.

I was on the phone with Joe speaking about the move for the initial inquiry and he was able to tell me exactly how everything would go. The day the movers arrived they were on time, and I couldn’t believe how quick they moved. Also, they were able to move my couch in the elevator. The guys who delivered it couldn’t even fit it in the elevator, but Joe’s guys got it done. I had to put a deposit down for the move, but I got it back the day after the move was done, which was way faster than I expected. Moreover, the price was better than any other place that quoted me, especially the big brand places that had a minimum of $1,000. Had the whole move done for under $600 for a 1 and a 1/2 bedroom that wasn’t a local move 10/10 would recommend

Hands down, best moving experience I’ve ever had- and I’ve moved a number of times. Tyler, the owner, is extremely responsive and conscientious. The two movers who arrived kept me in the loop as to their exact arrival time (as did Tyler, and they were even early per my request!), and were beyond polite and professional. I felt very comfortable having them move all my personal belongings and would probably only ever use them again. I strongly recommend you cancel the other movers you booked and book Beaumont instead!

The movers were amazing!! All were friendly and fun. They were efficient and careful with my extra special antiques. They truly cared about doing a good job. They were punctual and worked so well together. It was a very hot day with lots and lots of stairs. But they worked tirelessly. I have moved MANY times and have NEVER had a more positive experience and outcome. I would recommend them 100% and will use again. Hopefully not too soon though! Still unpacking!! Wonderful job!!

I am giving the high rating to VS NY Transportation Inc as I've dealt in the past quite a few times with different moving companies. For the recor, I had moved about 12 times and can tell the difference. The crew arrived on-time and with brief instructions moved everything. I didn't have to deal with any extra charges because there were none. The time was tracked precisely and the packaging material was used ONLY as needed. I recommend VS NY Transportation Inc to anyone who needs assistance with moving.

The movers were very nice and treated our furniture well. They wrapped everything to prevent damage. However they were two hours late. When they left the first residence for the destination, it took forever. The office had great customer service. The same person answered all of the calls so she gets to know the customer well. She was great to work with and answered all questions or concerns.

I'd like to thank Move Quick for making my recent move from NC to NJ one of the smoothest moves ever. The movers were prompt, prepared, and friendly. Overall, I was very impressed. These guys are fast too. They had our stuff wrapped up snug and tight and had it loaded before I knew it. I know that moving during the winter is cold but these guys just pushed forward. Would definitely use them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
