Rod provided a very reasonable estimate on a tall 2nd story roof. He arrived on time, and best of all, he personally supervised his staff's work. I've had roofers in the past send out sketchy crews with no supervision -- this was a welcome sight! Rod explained the repair in detail before he started, he took photos of the area before, during, and after the work was done. Thumbs up to that. Oh, and fascia was damaged so had to be replaced. I didn't have any of that trim paint, so Rod purchased his own matching can. How's that for pride in your work?!

I absolutely recommend Danny at The Roofsmith for your roofing needs. You won’t find a better roofer or someone with amazing customer service than this who cares about your roofing issues. I found Danny on Angie's List and Thumstack during my research for a roofing contractor. From the moment I called Danny up he was in constant communication and helped me feel more than comfortable knowing that I choose the right person. At first I didn’t know what to expect of his services due to there being a little amount of reviews on Angie’s list. It always seems that when you are on Angie’s list that you have to go with the contractor that has 100+ ratings. This is not the case with Danny at The Roofsmith. Danny made sure that from start to finish that his work was completed with excellence and amazing customer service. He was able to complete the job within a 1 day period. I couldn’t be more happier with my roof. After the roof repair was completed it began to rain. The amazing news is that there is no more leaks even after it rained. I am so happy to finally be worry free from the great job he did on my roof. Danny cleaned up after himself and made sure that I was more than happy with the completed work. If you want great customer service, quality work with excellence and someone who is competitive…look no further and choose Danny. You won’t regret it.

I live in Florida. Last year my roof had leaks in two different areas; due to the tropical climate, it was imperative to repair it asap. I called on five roofers, was impressed with Fabio; he is punctual, proffessional, sincere and knowledgeable. He inspected the roof inside and outside, took pictures and gave me a thorough explanation and estimate of what needed to be repaired. On the day of the service, he called to say he was on his way, finished the job on the same day and I have been leak free ever since. His price and guarantee were comparable to the others but what set him apart was his knowledge and his inspection of the leaks and the time he spent explaining to me what needed to be done.

I called Thomsons roofing today after noticing a leak in my roof from the rain the night before. John came out approx. an hour later and located the problem. John showed me the problem, and showed me that it was a quick and easy fix. John even explained to me how to repair it and even told me what materials to buy! I was impressed they came out so quickly after a rain storm as they must have been flooded with calls. I am even more impressed that he didn't sell me anything and helped me fix it myself for under $20.00. I can't recommend them enough! Look no further, you have found your roofing contractor!

I can't say enough good things about the work Jose did for me last month. But I'll try to name a few important ones. We had an original 1960s bath in our house. It was vintage, but tacky. My wife and I wanted to give it a rustic and earthy look. Not only did Jose work on this project for us, but he mainly drove the design of it as well. He recommended the perfect shower head, bath hardware, and paint colours too. They ripped out my old subway tiles that covered our bath walls and removed all the floor and shower tile. They removed our old shower walls and put in new back boards. They put our shower faucet over head as we wanted the rainfall effect when showering. They put in travertine tiles in our shower and on our floor. Here it was easy to see Jose's meticulous eye for details. The work he did in our tile is outstanding. He put in a new efficient toilet, one that he picked out for us and is another perfect fit. He converted our single sink to a double, installed reclaimed Pine sink cabinet with two carrera marble vessel sinks. No leaks, everything works great. Jose did such a great job for us and I cannot recommend him highly enough. By the time he was finished, all we had to do was pick out some artwork for the walls. We already are saving for him to remodel our second bathroom next year.

Chris and his crew replaced my shingle and flat roof. From the estimate (which they arrived on time for) to the permit papers and roof work all was done really quickly. Even though it was a major project my home was kept tidy. I can't say enough about the job done. I am so happy that I chose Rapid Roofer for my roof replacement.

Soon after posting my request for a roofer, Mike Rizzo of Durham Brothers was the first to respond. I'm an effort to give me a realist quote, he and staff visited my property twice. True to the promise on their website, Mike has given me guidance, offered various scenarios and possible solutions to the complex issues I am facing with not only the roof but accompanying problems for which there are not simple solutions. When other companies staff have simply walked away from the property without explaination or the courtesy of a return phone call Mike returned my phone calls including after traditional hours on Friday. The exemplary customer service responsiveness and attention to detail have earned Durham Brothers my appreciation, future business and referrals.

The service I had with Webb roofing was remarkable. Not only was he the cheapest in town he replaced all my fascia boards, sprayed my roof for termites and put on 3 dimensional shingles with ridge vents all for a great price. I had other roofers come out and they wanted to charge me 10000 to 13000 just for the roof alone. Whoever I know or if anyone ask me about any roof job I am going to refer Webb roofing.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
