Henry did a great job with the difficult roof line complexity. It probably took him longer than expected to get the algae and mold build-up off the roof and complete the job. I had concerns about the bleach solution used and potential damage to my Ipe deck, and my flowers and shrubs. Henry made sure that the deck was covered and he sprayed down all of my plants along the way. I would hire Henry again.

With the recent rain we have had, we noticed a leak in our living room. Alex Bello with Statewide Roofing was the first to respond to my request and quickly arrived to our home for a repair estimate. Our roof is 22 years old, so I feared that the entire roof was due for replacement. To my surprise and Alex's honesty, he did a thorough analysis of the work needed to fix the leak and did not recommend that the roof be replaced at this time. He said it had another good 5 years in it. What a relief. He provided pictures of the damaged areas of the roof as well as the vent pipes, which also needed replacing. His estimate was very fair. He also cleaned my gutters while up there for a very reasonable rate. He and his crew arrived the next day to complete the work. They were very efficient and thoroughly cleaned the work area after completion. We have had a fair amount of rain since the repair. No leaks. Alex performs quality work at a reasonable price. I am a customer for life. In fact, I plan to have him come back and install gutter guards soon as well as have him paint my home. He shared with me several photos of the quality of work he and his team perform. I highly recommend them.

First of all Miguel is very kind person to work with. Miguel has done excellent job in repairing my roof. During heavy rain I could see water on my master bed room ceiling. First day he came to get all the details. Depanding on my availablity he scehduled the repair. He is very quick in his replies either via text or phone. He came on time and finished the repair. One good thing about him is he does not over charges like other contractors do. He will give you very optimum quote. He belives in quality work. I had to delay the schedule in 2 hrs and he re-scheduled it without any problem. Talking to him came to know that he has been doing this for last 15 years. You won't see lots of reviews for him unlike others but I would suggest to try him once for your job and you will know what I am saying...Thanks Miguel for all your hard work. Keep up the good work.

Rush and his crew did a great job! there was a roof leak at the chimney. the went to the roof (3 floors on a hill), also replaced all gutters with 4"and put on gutter guards. great job considering the builder didn't install roof shingles correct. He gave a good warranty too.

After previously contacting my insurance regarding missing shingles and leaks, I called three different roofing companies for estimates. Two of them showed up. Equality Roofing took a thorough look at the roof (including a trip up there) and gave us an honest evaluation. Antonio noted several leaks and inside ceiling damage. He was confident he and his adjuster would be able to make a good claim to our insurance company for a total roof and gutter guard replacement. He even came back that evening with an employee and nailed a tarp on the roof over one of the leaks! It took several trips out; one for his adjuster; one for the insurance company adjuster; and one for an engineer sent by the insurance company. But he was able to convince the insurance company the damage was covered within our policy. He handled everything and told us not to worry--he had this! And indeed he did! His team of employees were efficient, diligent, and mindful of surroundings. Everything was neat and clean when they finished. If you are in need of roof repair or replacement, Equality Roofing & Painting is the one to call!

I had a leak in my roof around the chimney and Hugo came out quick, gave me an estimate, repaired the roof throughly, and even made sure the new shingles (replaced the entire valley pictured) matched my 10 year old ones and painted the chimney top ( just because it had a little rust on it ... had nothing to do with the leak) Highly recommend !

Eric and his team are amazing! I called one afternoon, and they came out that same day to take a look at my roof. Gave me an estimate that was lower than another estimate I got. They were out the next morning to do the work. I can't say enough good things. Extremely responsive, courteous, professional. Just the best! If you need roof work done, give Eric a call and he'll take care of it quickly!

They came out on patched and sealed my driveway at a fraction of the cost or replacing it. It's not perfect but I'm very happy with the value. We are selling the house so the goal here was to make it good enough for selling and I am happy with what we got.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
