I'm very impressed with the quality and the education of the tutors. It's like everyone here has an Ivy League education.
Laura is very proficient with coaching English as a second language. She will teach you the skills to interact with people (e.g.: in your line of business when you are in their country) who speak other languages. The skills include learning to be comfortable with the second language, and not just with the words themselves.
She is an inspiring motivator to your child. She is warm, caring and very knowledgeable of all subjects. I would recommend her to anyone (child or adult). She not only helped my daughter with learning subjects for the ACT, but also with helpful hints and techniques. Lastly, my daughter also suffered from anxiety during testing. I'm happy to say she did not experience any anxiety when testing!!!
We hired Jeff about 3 weeks prior to the ACT to help our son prepare. Jeff always came prepared with practice tests and reviewed several subject areas. Jeff relates well and understands high school age students. He helped our son focus on areas that would provide the greatest impact Our son's ACT score increased 3 points. We were very pleased with Jeff and highly recommend him.
Hntsa was very patient, knowledgeable and sensitive to the educational development of our student. She clearly demonstrated an increase in her ability to comprehend and work through difficult cognitive processes. I would strongly recommend Hntsa for hire as a tutor.
I was so impressed with Kevin and couldn't be happier that he reached out on thumb tack. I was in search of a tutor to help me pass the Elementary Education Math Content Test (very similar to the ACT math). Not only was Kevin able to teach in student friendly terms, he was SO knowledgeable of the types of questions and concepts I would need to know. Kevin was always very punctual and approachable when ever I did not understand something. We were able to meet before tutoring began to create a plan that we would follow together. By the last session, we covered every topic in the amount of time I hoped for. If you're in need of any math tutoring, I would HIGHLY recommend Kevin. Hands down the absolute best tutor I have ever been in contact with!!
Suzanne has been my daughter's tutor for the past ten years. She very quickly tapped into her strengths and interests to provide fun ways to improve her language arts skills. Suzanne's special education background, in addition to her patient and kind personality have made her an excellent teacher. My daughter has absolutely loved going to "tutoring" all these years!
Ashwin is a most excellent math tutor. He is thorough, patient, and has a special gift to explain math in terms everyone can understand. He is always well prepared for lessons and provides a quality educational experience. I highly recommend him!
Lucille helped me with editing papers for my Master's degree. I was so pleased with the results, and hired her to help my daughter with her High School creative writing assignments! When I learned that she also did tutoring for reading, I asked her to help my elementary school Granddaughter, with reading comprehension. She has a special way of teaching which made the work fun while achieving success. Her writing abilities are evident in her published books for children and adults. I have read and enjoyed all of them. I highly recommend her services.
David has been irreplaceable in helping me to prepare for a college level placement exam after several years with no mathematic exposure. He is obviously very passionate about what he does and it translates into the high quality of his tutoring. He gave me access to very intuitive resources and through them I’ve been able to re-learn more about math in a few months than in years during school, as well as doing so at my own pace which is extremely important to me. I really appreciate his patience, flexibility, and professionalism throughout the entire time we have worked together. Would definitely hire again if I need Math assistance in the future and would reccomend him if I knew somebody else who was struggling.
Editorial and proofreading projects for two separate education websites. Susan (a) met all the deadlines and often beat the deadlines, (b) was more than capable of working independently work out of her house as well as in the office, and (c) did an excellent job finding the needed issues in our services. I would definitely recommend Susan as she was great to work with and did an excellent job.
I highly recommend Strategic Tutoring by Mrs. Mack. Financially I am struggling to make ends me but wanted to help my children succeed in school. Since my good friend also had children that needed extra help, Mrs. combined the kids into 2 small groups which gave them the support the needed and kept the hourly fee down. Instead if paying $45 an hour my girlfriend and I spent $28 an hour which was manageable. Mrs. Mack tutored my 9th grade son and my friend's 10th grade daughter together at the Geneva library. She selected reading, writing, and science topics materials that were intetesting to the kids and also pertinent to what they were studying at school. She took the time to talk to the teachers and even was involved in a conference at the school. The kids were very eager to see Mrs. Mack each week so we actually increased the time to 90 minutes a week and I am happy to say after a few sessions the classroom teachers noticed significant improvement in their reading fluency and comprehension even in biology and modern world social studies and this was reflected in their grades and attitude. My younger son in 3rd grade was tutored with my friend's 2nd grade daughter. Mrs. Mack took time journal writing back and forth with both of them secretly working on writing skills which did help to improve their essay and creative writing skills. Her positive attitude and friendly demeanor created a spark in the kids and after about a month they made significant progress in decoding words more automatically, understanding what was being read, increased rate of math computation, and improved writing structure and creativity. The kids actually understand and know how to apply various strategies that Mrs. Mack taught. She spent time with me explaining these strategies and providing me with a "strategy cheat sheet" so that we all ( teachers, parents, tutor) used a common language when guiding or reminding the kids how to solve a problem with reading, writing, or math. Mrs. Mack went beyond what I ever expected in a tutor and her experience with ESL, Special Education, Behavior Disordered, and Gifted students was apparent wben she took initiative to set up some enrichment activites for my 5th grader on her own time!
Amari's Tutoring Service has a decade of experience providing high quality tutoring services.
I have taught reading, writing, thinking, speaking, listening, critical thinking for the past fifteen years. I also have a daughter in school, so I can see both sides of the education system. Fun works. Rigor works. Students having a voice works. I can help people navigate grades, tests, and most of all learning! I have also begun writing digital curriculum, pushing my thinking about how to design and measure learning. I would love to write more curriculum that works as games do.
Hi, I think everyone can master mathematics. All you need is a little patience and someone to make it fun for you. I am a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering specializing in Nonlinear Dynamics & Control (applied mathematics). Math to me is exciting and I believe that everyone will be just as excited if they learn it in a fun way. I have taught advanced math courses, as an undergrad, to high-school students, helped students with math and quantitative test prep, and also taught popular university undergraduate courses. I have a strong background in teaching school level algebra, geometry, probability, statistics and calculus, ranging from basic to advanced level mathematics. I work with the students depending on their knowledge and goals, be it to score an A+ or learning something new and advanced. I like to provide personal attention and believe in helping the student learn rather than just teach from a book. Study with me and math will always be fun for you as it is for me.
I was a home-school mom for over 10 years. So, although I am not a certified teacher, I am a mother who taught and directed three children in how to learn and learn independently. Primary grades are my specialty, especially reading skills, foundational math principles, spelling, and English language basics. While I home educated, Ive managed an apartment building in Chicago, part-time. I have been managing this property for 24 years. It is a part-time position, and I am seeking additional work at this time. I really like kids (our house is too quiet), and I enjoy helping them get excited about reading and learning. Let me help your kids to lay the solid foundation they will need to love learning for the rest of their lives.
I am an educator that enjoys writing. I have helped people write resumes, edit books, as well as develop websites. I prefer emailing me your work and I will revise it for you or the information you would like me to write about for you.

Hello, My name is Aya, and I started this company as an undocumented immigrant. I named it DIY Education because I realized at a young age that most of us aren't born with the "golden spoon", but the opportunities are bountiful and readily available for anyone to obtain with a little bit of effort. At DIY Education, we don't believe in teachers -- we believe in learners. We welcome learners who want to excel or improve to call or email us, and schedule an appointment with mentors who are willing to listen, learn, and be more than a vocalized textbook.
We offer education consulting which includes tutoring basic skills for adults, Zander English as a second language.
