I'm very impressed with the quality and the education of the tutors. It's like everyone here has an Ivy League education.

She is an inspiring motivator to your child. She is warm, caring and very knowledgeable of all subjects. I would recommend her to anyone (child or adult). She not only helped my daughter with learning subjects for the ACT, but also with helpful hints and techniques. Lastly, my daughter also suffered from anxiety during testing. I'm happy to say she did not experience any anxiety when testing!!!

We hired Jeff about 3 weeks prior to the ACT to help our son prepare. Jeff always came prepared with practice tests and reviewed several subject areas. Jeff relates well and understands high school age students. He helped our son focus on areas that would provide the greatest impact Our son's ACT score increased 3 points. We were very pleased with Jeff and highly recommend him.

Bertina provided tutoring I both math and executive functioning for my middle school aged son who is autistic. With her help, he was able to institute a homework schedule he could stick to on his own, and we no longer had a battle every night. Bertina is kind, thoughtful and communicative, but is also able to hold ground with a disruptive kid.

Laura is very proficient with coaching English as a second language. She will teach you the skills to interact with people (e.g.: in your line of business when you are in their country) who speak other languages. The skills include learning to be comfortable with the second language, and not just with the words themselves.

Hi! I am Irina V. Nikitina, Associate Professor at the School of Interpreting and Translation of the State Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Extensively working in the field of translation and interpreting, I have engaged Marina Sokolova in many translation projects as a freelance translator and editor in both Russian and English. Marina has excellent qualifications required for the job. With MA in Second Language Studies (USA) and English Language Pedagogy (UK), as well as such well-established certificates as CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teacher for Adults), Current Trends in Theory and Practice of Language Teaching, she makes a truly valuable contribution to a solid team of translators that I closely cooperate with. In every project Marina has been part of or has lead, she has demonstrated a set of qualities that are truly valuable for a professional: authentic and idiomatic language, broad outlooks, inquisitiveness, accuracy, commitment to deadlines, meticulousness, flexibility and responsiveness. Marina has deep knowledge and wide experience in the following areas: business correspondence, general documentation, academic, fiction. Her translations are always proofread and never require double check. I frequently address Marina to get her expert opinion on various linguistic matters both in Russian and English and find her approach to the job of translation and editing truly passionate.

I was so impressed with Kevin and couldn't be happier that he reached out on thumb tack. I was in search of a tutor to help me pass the Elementary Education Math Content Test (very similar to the ACT math). Not only was Kevin able to teach in student friendly terms, he was SO knowledgeable of the types of questions and concepts I would need to know. Kevin was always very punctual and approachable when ever I did not understand something. We were able to meet before tutoring began to create a plan that we would follow together. By the last session, we covered every topic in the amount of time I hoped for. If you're in need of any math tutoring, I would HIGHLY recommend Kevin. Hands down the absolute best tutor I have ever been in contact with!!

Suzanne has been my daughter's tutor for the past ten years. She very quickly tapped into her strengths and interests to provide fun ways to improve her language arts skills. Suzanne's special education background, in addition to her patient and kind personality have made her an excellent teacher. My daughter has absolutely loved going to "tutoring" all these years!

I highly recommend Strategic Tutoring by Mrs. Mack. Financially I am struggling to make ends me but wanted to help my children succeed in school. Since my good friend also had children that needed extra help, Mrs. combined the kids into 2 small groups which gave them the support the needed and kept the hourly fee down. Instead if paying $45 an hour my girlfriend and I spent $28 an hour which was manageable. Mrs. Mack tutored my 9th grade son and my friend's 10th grade daughter together at the Geneva library. She selected reading, writing, and science topics materials that were intetesting to the kids and also pertinent to what they were studying at school. She took the time to talk to the teachers and even was involved in a conference at the school. The kids were very eager to see Mrs. Mack each week so we actually increased the time to 90 minutes a week and I am happy to say after a few sessions the classroom teachers noticed significant improvement in their reading fluency and comprehension even in biology and modern world social studies and this was reflected in their grades and attitude. My younger son in 3rd grade was tutored with my friend's 2nd grade daughter. Mrs. Mack took time journal writing back and forth with both of them secretly working on writing skills which did help to improve their essay and creative writing skills. Her positive attitude and friendly demeanor created a spark in the kids and after about a month they made significant progress in decoding words more automatically, understanding what was being read, increased rate of math computation, and improved writing structure and creativity. The kids actually understand and know how to apply various strategies that Mrs. Mack taught. She spent time with me explaining these strategies and providing me with a "strategy cheat sheet" so that we all ( teachers, parents, tutor) used a common language when guiding or reminding the kids how to solve a problem with reading, writing, or math. Mrs. Mack went beyond what I ever expected in a tutor and her experience with ESL, Special Education, Behavior Disordered, and Gifted students was apparent wben she took initiative to set up some enrichment activites for my 5th grader on her own time!

After deciding to return to school, and complete my degree, the last class I had to take was a Technical Math class. Being years later, this class was no longer offered - I had to take it as an independent student, meaning I had no instructor, or class to show up to, only a syllabus and a Math book. A Math assistance area was available to students, and there I met the tutor I write of here. Of the 6 to 8 tutors available, I signed up with Dave as much as possible. The class I was taking dealt with Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry as well as an introduction to Calculus. I could barely remember how to factor a problem, but working with Dave, he spent the time to help me get through the basics, and had the patience to answer many of my off the wall questions, and many that I thought were unrelated. The first test I took before I asked for any assistance, I had totally bombed. A 47... I knew I'd need help and after working with Dave for a week and a half, the retake test I took got me an 88. Dave helped me gain the confidence I needed to figure out problems on my own, and showed me how I could apply other concepts and equations from other chapters and solve new problems in a variety of ways. I am on my last exam now, and I still choose to wait in line to work with this excellent tutor, when there are another 5 available at any time. If you are in need of assistance with Math, and are looking for someone to help you either from the very basics to intermediate and advanced topics, I would highly recommend Dave as he is an outstanding tutor, with loads of patience and knowledge, as well as being incomparable to other tutors in his willingness to help and assist you as much as you need. Thanks Dave!

About

I was a home-school mom for over 10 years. So, although I am not a certified teacher, I am a mother who taught and directed three children in how to learn and learn independently. Primary grades are my specialty, especially reading skills, foundational math principles, spelling, and English language basics. While I home educated, I’ve managed an apartment building in Chicago, part-time. I have been managing this property for 24 years. It is a part-time position, and I am seeking additional work at this time. I really like kids (our house is too quiet), and I enjoy helping them get excited about reading and learning. Let me help your kids to lay the solid foundation they will need to love learning for the rest of their lives.

About

Hello, My name is Aya, and I started this company as an undocumented immigrant. I named it DIY Education because I realized at a young age that most of us aren't born with the "golden spoon", but the opportunities are bountiful and readily available for anyone to obtain with a little bit of effort. At DIY Education, we don't believe in teachers -- we believe in learners. We welcome learners who want to excel or improve to call or email us, and schedule an appointment with mentors who are willing to listen, learn, and be more than a vocalized textbook.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
