Rocking Times DJs did our wedding on July 19th, and they did a fantastic job! Through the wedding planning process, Simona was always so prompt to answer any question we had, not only with their DJ service, but also with local photographers, cakes, and receptions venues. She truly has a willingness to help make your special day a memorable one, and is willing to go the extra mile to help you in whatever way possible! I would recommend them for their hospitality alone, but that would not give credit to the awesome DJ services they also provide. Let's just say that the dance floor at our wedding was hopping the whole night! The DJ did a great job keeping everyone interested in the music, playing guests requests, and also playing the songs that my husband and I really wanted to hear. Music is very important to us, and if it is important to you, trust Simona and Brian with your big day! You will be in good hands. I would recommend them to anyone having a wedding in the Indy area.

If you need a DJ for ANYTHING, you MUST check out what CR Entertainment! This was my first time using thumbtack and I was a little skeptical at first, but CR Entertainment was the DJ for our wedding reception and he was the star of the show. I can’t even begin to count how many complements we got on how interactive Charles was with our guests! THE MAGIC WILL BLOW YOUR MIND - kids AND adults both loved it! The music selection was exactly what we requested and fit the mood to a ‘T’. There was a good mix of genres; some newer songs and some oldies! I could go on and on but moral of this review is, if you book CR Entertainment, you will NOT be disappointed!

My wedding was June 25, 2012. I planned everything myself and had a very tight budget. I found Jacobo on craigslist and he did my hair, makeup, my bridesmaids hair and makeup and STAYED with me the whole day doing touchups so I had the PERFECT day (and all this for WAY cheaper than everyone else wanted to just do the makeup!) My DJ ended up skipping out on the reception and Jacobo came to the rescue again! He MC'd and DJ'd my wedding and made sure everyone had fun! Not only is he muti-talented, he is such a wonderful guy and so fun to be around! I use him now for special events and to fix up me and the family for family photos twice a year (he also is great at photography!). He is just fabulous and I HIGHLY recommend him! This man is a MIRACLE worker if he can make me look and feel like a supermodel!!!

He did a great job at our wedding. He was great about communicating before the event, and played a great mix of songs that kept the party upbeat and fun! He also did a fantastic job of interacting with our guests and playing any request. If you want a fun, upbeat party, I would go with him!

Sometimes in life you get exactly what you were looking for when you didn't even know what you wanted. That describes Jeff and his photography expertise. The emails I received in response to my request were engaging and full of life from someone who obviously enjoyed his chosen vocation. He made suggestions but let me be myself (which came through in the awesome photos). He was so creative and, when added to his attention to the smallest details, made for an unforgettable moment captured in time for my fiancé. Consummate professional but with a fun personality which will provide you with beautiful memories of your special occasion. The pre-wedding shots were so incredible, I can only envision how treasured my wedding photos will be. All this and delivered way ahead of time for proofs. Have already recommended him to others!

Mitchell was a pleasure to work with at my wedding. He and his brother were very professional and got all of the shots we were looking for without interfering with any of the activities. He also took the time to re-record the ceremony after the wedding to enhance the sound quality on our video. We are very pleased with the final product, and highly recommend Mitchell. He was a fantastic value as well!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.
