About

In my experience working with students, the greatest reward has been: helping them reach their goals, assisting them through the difficult problems and enjoying the overall growth in the learning process. Because creating a fun atmosphere and rewarding progress, I believe, is instrumental to a perfect education. In contrast, every year overloaded public schools limit millions of middle school and high school students across America simply because they aren't receiving the due attention they deserve and without incentive to improve they are left at a stark disadvantage. Where do these kids end up? That's why it's important to utilize a professional tutor to ensure a solid foundation of mathematics early on in your child's life, which will allow him or her to really dramatically increase their number of professional opportunities. One of the things you'll love about my special teaching method is my patient demeanor and ability to optimally convey the information to meet the individual needs of the student. Every student tutored was satisfied and experienced an increase in their mathematical ability and comprehension resulting in higher grade levels and so will you. Now is the moment to take your learning to the next level! I'm the Math Guru. You + Math Guru= Motivation. Take hold of your future...Offering Algebra-Calculus classes and SAT training. Call Now!

About

People want to learn English for different reasons: Some want to get a job. Others want to advance in the jobs they already have. Still others want to feel more comfortable communicating in everyday situations. Some people would like to improve their English so they can help their children succeed in school. Others need to improve their English skills so they can get a high school diploma or a GED. And, some study English so they can become U.S. citizens. No matter what your goal is, I can help you reach it by becoming more confident in your ability to communicate in English. I offer individual and group English lessons to those who are just beginning to learn the language, to those who have intermediate proficiency, and to those who are advanced but would like to gain even greater fluency. During each session, you will have a chance to read, write, speak, and listen to English. And, the content of each session will be relevant to your everyday life and to your needs. Among other things, you will ** participate in conversations on topics that interest you ** read articles about news, culture, and other subjects you choose ** practice pronunciation ** develop your writing skills ** learn essential grammar, vocabulary, and idioms ** take trips to local shops, grocery stores, and cafes ** watch English language movies and TV programs ** listen to English language radio programs Generally, sessions are held in Mt. Rainier, Maryland, which is just minutes from the DC border off Rhode Island Avenue. If it is difficult for you to travel to my location, though, I will consider meeting at a location near you, such as a library or a cafe. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION For five years I was Program Manager at Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School in Washington, DC, which offers English language instruction and other programs to adult immigrants. At Carlos Rosario, I ran a family literacy as well as an ESL program, and I helped develop a transition program for those wishing to go on to college or to enter the workforce. After leaving that position, I became Director of Adult Basic Education at Baltimore City Community College in Maryland. For 20 years, I have also taught English at universities and community colleges on the east and west coasts, including George Mason University in Virginia; Northern Virginia Community College; The Evergreen State College in Washington State; and the University of California (UC), Berkeley. I have a BA and an MA in English from UC Berkeley; an MFA in writing from Mills College in Oakland, California; and a PhD (with a focus on adult education, Latin America, and writing) from Union Institute & University in Cincinnati, Ohio. I also have a secondary teaching credential in English (with an ESL certification) from Mills.
