What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. I hired a trainer before I reached out. It was a bad experience I was worried to try again. But I’m glad I did because it was the total opposite. Lots of knowledge, good person easy to talk to. I would recommend.

I love that it is 1-on-1 so you don't feel judged by others especially if you're just starting out. Trainers are great and make you feel comfortable and try to push you to do your best. I wish there was a better way to sign up for sessions but they have a great response time. For sure going to continue attending sessions!

David is an outstanding personal trainer. I did a tremendous amount of research and "interviews" with other potential trainers before deciding to team up with David. The first thing that I liked above his offering was the private studio. I had not worked out in a LONG time and I was self-conscious about working out in front of other people. Secondly, every other trainer I talked to tried to sell me supplements on the first phone call. This is a big turn off. Lastly, I could tell David was an intelligent guy and was not your run of the mill trainer. My experience over the last 4 months has reinforced my initial instinct. David is an articulate, intelligent and thoughtful guy which makes for an incredible training experience. He genially listens to your goals and designs the program for you. You will not do the same thing the person before or after you did-- the program is specific to your goals. He also pushes you without seeming like a drill sergeant. Within three months my body fat % went from 25+% to less than 12%. I feel better than I ever have and for the first time in my life I am hooked on exercise and improving my overall fitness. I initially committed to 3 months of intense training and was going to try and transition to working out on my own after that time period. David was in full support of this plan and at 3 months I was in a position where I could have successfully started training on my own. However, I genially enjoy working out with David so much that I have decided to continue on 3x a week with him. I am looking forward to pushing my fitness to the next level and would highly recommend David. If you are thinking about working out with a trainer you owe it to yourself to talk to David.

Richard is a professional trainer that knows what he's doing. He's flexible and will work with your schedule too. He will make a meal plan and workout plan designated for your goals. Don't expect over night change. Trust him and you'll see results as you keep training. He's certified, carries himself well, and has a proven record of success - every person he has trained for a competition has placed. Whatver your goal is, he will help you get there. He's always available if you needed to text, call, or email about a question or concern. He wants to help you succeed, but you have to want to succeed as well. He will make it affordable for your budget as well. This is not a big franchise gym with exorbitant fees and trainers that don't care about you. This is a private, well-kept/clean, not overly busy gym that Richard takes care of. You will always have the equipment you need to get your workout done. Give Richard a try, you won't regret it!

Working with Islam has helped me to improve my quality of life and I highly recommend his expertise in health and wellness and fitness. Before I started working out with him, I did not realize I was not eating enough, not getting enough nutritional value in the food I was eating, was not drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, and was not taking the vitamins my body needed to be healthy. I have been working out with Islam for 5 days a week, for 5 weeks now, I have been sleeping more hours, drinking the right amount of water, I have been taking the vitamins for 3 weeks now, and am not perfect but have been eating much better and following my meal plan as much as I can. Here are some things that I have noticed: my hair and skin feel softer and healthier, my nails are growing long naturally! I have lost water weight and have gained a few lbs but I fit so much better in my clothes, I am getting lots of compliments from people I know asking me what I changed and that I visually look like I’ve lost weight. My face is softer and more hydrated looking and I don’t look so exhausted all the time like I was. I feel like I have more energy, I feel emotionally better and happier and I feel like I am getting strong! I still have a long way to go and am still working hard to achieve my goals but I am so glad to have such a knowledgeable and caring expert trainer who supports me in what I am trying to accomplish. I just finished my first week with Anna. She is definitely an ass kicker! I've had two sessions, both an hour and a half long. She made sure to take the time to hear about what I wanted to get out of the experience which was really nice. It's early, so I can't post about long term results, however, the soreness speaks volumes. I already have improved from session 1 to 2 and feel stronger so I'm pretty excited to see where I'll be a couple months from now. I think what's different about Anna vs. trying it on your own, or even other trainers, is that she will hold you accountable and be supportive, but she will also tell it like it is. I appreciate the fact that she pushes me and makes sure I'm working hard so I can achieve my goals. I've also had some injuries, and she has been great about changing up some things to accommodate that. So with that, I would say if you want results, to be pushed hard, but also supported, she will be a great fit. If I have questions about nutrition or anything else she's very responsive and has even texted to check in to see how I'm doing. The only reason I didn't rate 5 is because it's early!
