He is very friendly and easy to work with, but he gets straight down to business with what you are trying to achieve in the subject which for me was SAT. Gave a lot of tips and strategies on how to do well on the SAT, and gave warm up practice problems to do during the sessions and as homework. He will also not move on until you fully mastered the lesson being taught, so you're absolutely getting your money's worth!!

Ted is tutoring my son in high school algebra. He tries hard to accommodate our schedule which we really appreciate. So far, my son feels that his tutoring sessions are going well and he has a greater understanding of math concepts that were confusing in class. Ted is helping Justin feel more confident:)

Thank you for this service. It must be shared how helpful Lou was for my family. My two sons were both needing assistance. One for algebra and the other for trigonometry and pre-calculus. My daughter needed help with more basic math. My teenage sons were amazed and quietly grateful to get instruction that was clear and simply stated so they could grasp the subject matter. Their grades improved in school. One of my sons, the senior, was failing and Lou's expertise was the difference. My son finished the course with a B. The other son was struggling to earn a C. Now he is getting A's! My daughter was amazed that she could finally comprehend and even enjoy math. Lou shared his passion about math and it rubbed off on her. She's been enjoying her math studies now and as eager to learn more. Lou is an educated and confident instructor. He gets five out of five stars.

I wanted to write in support of Brad Kelly in teaching my son the skills needed to improve his scores on the SAT. My son has a 95+ average in high school, taking predominantly honors and AP courses. His knowledge base and understanding of material for tests is impressive. However, the SAT is not about what you know, but about applying test taking skills that are not routinely used in everyday high school classes or even AP/IB exams. Despite his knowledge base and baseline test taking skills, with a simple 6 week course and his own efforts, he was only able to achieve a 1330 on his first SAT attempt. We then approached a test prep provider where we live, and were connected with Brad Kelly. Brad spent five 2 hour sessions with my son developing the skills necessary and the confidence in those skills for the June 2017 administration of the SAT. On this test his scores increase to a 1470, 780 in Math and 690 in Verbal. I would highly recommend Brad to assist your student in developing the necessary test taking skills to improve their performance on the SAT or ACT, a major factor in entry into the academic school of their choice.

Susan is a great teacher, or should I say, leader. She led me through complex material and helped me to understand how things relate to one another. After that, everything else fell into place. She had great patience and ease. Great job!

I had one on one lessons during my time in the US. She had previously lived in France for a long time so was very knowledgeable on how to actually speak French rather than just what the text book says. I learnt a lot fast . I was reading long passages within a few weeks with good understanding and started speaking from day one. Although I found it difficult to speak and create my own sentences this forced you to begin to learn properly. I would highly recommend this tutor

French is a lovely language, and it will be my pleasure to explore the French culture and good pronunciation with you! Because I grew up in France, I will share everything I know about Paris even the French cuisine, if you are interested. The more time you will practice, the more fluent you will become. I am looking forward to meeting you! Warmly, Marie-helene

    About

We make students work on basic and simple concepts. We try to build several solutions for one problem to make you understand that the way you tackle a problem depends on your point of view. If you want to gather $1,000 in $5 and $10, you have N (the overall number of tens and fives), F (the number of fives) and T (the number of tens). Whichever of the quantity N, F, or T you are given, you can express the other two. If you want the best grasp of geometry, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, and probability, you have a good partner who will help you go beyond a weird vocabulary and make a link with problem-solving.

    About

I teach elementary school, where I write age-appropriate lessons for children of all skill levels. I have been a teacher for 15 years and can truly say that I love my job. This is the career that I was meant to enjoy! Teaching makes me feel like I make a difference in the lives of my students and I leave them better than when I met them.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:
