We have had 4 Seasons clean our gutters twice this year (spring and fall). Each time they did an exceptional job. They arrived on time, performed the service quickly and professionally. They got the pine straw off our roof as well as cleaned the gutters and cleaned up the debris from the gutters that fell in the yard. As a finishing touch, they used their blowers and rakes to clean our sidewalk and driveway. Our sidewalk and driveway looked better when they left than when they arrived! We will definitely use this company again and highly recommend them.

What started out as a single small roof turned out to be a complete replacement due to bad material of the original roof. I chose ABJ for the following reasons 1,) being BBB A+ accredited, 2.) payment due at job closure and 3.) working with me to file a warranty claim with original roofing material supplier to receive credit and compensation. If it wasn’t for ABJ guiding me through the warranty process, I would have never known about the ability to file a claim. Regarding the job itself they completed the job in two days, were courteous, and resolved un-seen issues with the original roof. They demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and competence. When they left they cleaned up and you couldn’t even tell that a new roof was just installed. I highly recommend ABJ Roofing and have already told my neighbors about my experience with ABJ.

I needed some exterior maintenance done on my rental house in NC. I happen to be in a different state, and could not be present, so I was a little anxious about this, especially since I have tenants living there. The work included some tree trimming, new roof vent system, pressure washing and staining of the entire house, and some minor trim replaced. Mr. Ursini gave me an initial estimate for a good portion of the work and I sent him a deposit. He completed the work in a timely manner and communicated with me about the state of things and what was needed. He also sent me pictures, before and after, and it was almost as good as being there. After the initial round of work, I decided to use them to complete an entire stain job on the cypress siding and decks. I was very pleased with the quality of work and it was evident that Ron really wanted to do a good job for me. I will use them again in the future.

We recently contracted with Probuilt to install a new roof. This company performed beyond our expectations. Bill Asher and Mike Woods are great guys to work with, both personable and honest, professional and courteous. Once the scope of the work was determined, Probuilt was on the job quick and performed the work in a timely manner. The roof looks great. We had a shed roof that was damaged and not discussed in prior conversations, but Probuilt utilized left-over materials and re-roofed the shed for us. Even though I had not included the shed in initial work request (actually forgot about it) this was a welcome surprise. We ended up working with a insurance claim as Probuilt was proactive in noting damage from storms and was able to work with our insurance company to provide relevant claim information leading to subsequent coverage. I highly recommend Probuilt. We are already working on the next project, new siding. Mike and Sandra Cress

We just replaced our roof using Artisan. From start to finish it was an outstanding, easy experience! The quote was quick, the estimate was reasonable, and the job was thorough. The workers showed up early in the morning and by the end of the day, we had a beautiful new roof. Abel's team has been with him for many years and it shows. Overall, I would highly recommend Artisan for any of your roofing needs!

Sta-Dry Roofing & Restorations is now our go-to for anything we may need done to our home. Here's why: Brooks and Patrick project an air of confidence, courtesy, knowledge and integrity. Then they back it up with their work! We needed a new roof on our 2000 foot + home due to storm damage. They took care of everything. Everything. We didn't even talk to our homeowners insurance company. They took care of it all. To our complete satisfaction. They came on time and the job was done in a day! The clean up? Never have seen anything like it. We checked all around the house. You'd never know an old roof was removed and a new one installed. Not one nail or piece of shingle. Impressive! Needless to say, we highly recommend Sta-Dry Roofing & Restorations.

Sean walked the roof with me, explaining possible problems and fixes. Explained the proposal figures in detail. The crew showed up on time and went at it.When the old shingles and felt were off, Sean walked the roof again pointing out problem spots and explained the fixes. Excellent product, excellent installation and at a fair price. I would recommend to all my family and friends. Thanks again, Dan Liles

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
