Jose did an excellent job cleaning out our gutters. Had our roof replaced a little over a year ago and apparently the roofers left way too many nails which were clogging our highest gutters. Jose was able to remove every nail as well as all other debris...now gutters flow freely!! Would def hire again!

I hired Sergio to secure and seal my dryer exhaust vent. He secured it solidly with masonry screws and sealed it tight with neat caulk lines. He even recommended a better vent to keep birds and rodents out! Professional work. Highly recommend.

We have had 4 Seasons clean our gutters twice this year (spring and fall). Each time they did an exceptional job. They arrived on time, performed the service quickly and professionally. They got the pine straw off our roof as well as cleaned the gutters and cleaned up the debris from the gutters that fell in the yard. As a finishing touch, they used their blowers and rakes to clean our sidewalk and driveway. Our sidewalk and driveway looked better when they left than when they arrived! We will definitely use this company again and highly recommend them.

Travis was the best! He will be my go to guy for any roofing need that arise. He installed a solar attic fan on my home and with minimal difficulty. He came at 730am set up installed and was done by 9am. He clean up and you would never know he was here. I think the best thing I will say about this entire job for me was the attention. Travis guided and advised me in my questioning without knowing if he had the job or not. He was in communication with me and patient. Thanks Travis so much for making this experience a great one!

My father-in-law was a well-respected general contractor for the past 50 years, with specialties in masonry, stone work and carpentry. With my husband growing up in the business, he can immediately tell the difference between good and bad contractors. Ron is a very thorough, honest, and true craftsman who did a phenomenal job in remodeling the 1st and 2nd floor of my workshop. There aren’t too many contractors like him these days. Not only did our project surpass our expectations, he stayed on budget and on time. I would highly recommend Ron for you home remodeling needs.

Dan did a fabulous job for us in removing a load bearing wall and building a pantry. Before he started he walked us through everything and explained the process, taking the time to answer all our questions. He is very detail oriented and a true craftsman with extensive knowledge of home construction. We will not hesitate to hire him again for any future projects.

We hired JFItzgerald to do several jobs at once. Roofing, tearing down and rebuilding a deck, tearing down old fencing and putting in new fencing, vinyl siding repair are just some of the items. Everything was completed in a timely manner and looks great! Not only was John very professional, he provided great customer service and was a very tidy worker. There was never any trash or debris left lying around. We will definitely hire him again in the future and will recommend him to anyone looking for a General Contractor.

I am very happy with my experience with this roofer (Apal Roofing – Art Barnes). Our initial communications were done completely online. We made an appointment online through Thumbtack on a Saturday for him to come out to my house and give me a quote that next day (Sunday at 10am). What first impressed me is that not only did he show up as promised on Sunday, but he showed up 15 minutes early, actually got up on my roof, walked around to assess it, took pictures and then took the time to show me the pictures and explain what I was seeing and why it was or was not significant. Of the roofers that gave me a quote, none of them, except Art, did that. He is also the only roofer who gave me a quote for repairs vs replacement, an idea of how long the roof would last if I made repairs only and a 10 year workmanship, no leak guarantee if I replaced the roof. In addition to that, the quote he gave me to replace the roof and gutters was significantly lower than any of the others I received. On the agreed upon day, the roofers showed up on time, got to work quickly and was completely finished installing the roof and cleaning up 4 hours later. The gutter installers came a couple hours later and were equally as efficient as the roofers. After the job was completely done, Art walked around my house and checked to make sure the job was done right and there were no leftover nails on the ground. Now here is where the job could have gone South. Art and I somehow failed to have a meeting of the minds with respect to the installation of gutter covers. After we talked it out and came to an agreement, he made it right for me. If all of the other positive things I have mentioned did not tell me why his company has such good reviews and an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, his response to our failed meeting of the minds did just that. I am very pleased with this company and would definitely recommend them to anyone…as a matter of fact, I already have.

I was impressed by the manner in which Brian Carty related to my concerns. He was professional, courteous and articulate, spelling out their estimate for my roofing job clearly, covering all the bases and answering my questions. We went over the job, chose materials, and discussed procedures to make sure my property was treated with care. They put tarps over our sunroom and covered the bushes around the house for protection. The job itself took just 3 days from start to finish. His crew was friendly, organized and quick. They did a great job, especially in making sure my concerns about any areas I had questions about. In doing the job, a couple of screens on my windows were damaged but they were taken care of without question, in fact, Brian came to me and told me what had happened and fixed the screens no questions. I have a gravel driveway and they were concerned about nails being embedded in the gravel. They went over my driveway with a magnet several times (at least 3) and went around the house as well to make sure there were no nails or debris left. All in all, the job was done as well as anyone could possibly expect and they went out of their way to make sure I was pleased. I've recommended them to my neighbors and will certainly do so again and I wouldn't hesitate having ProBuilt do work for me again.

Artisan Quality Roofing was able to answer all my questions quickly, easy to schedule, and didn't apply any high pressure sales tactics. They were on-site early (which worked out well for me), performed the repair, and cleaned up after themselves. They also sent pictures to me so I had them for reference. Thank you.

I cannot emphasize enough how pleased I am with Raleigh Roofers, William Coble, and his team of roofers. The price was right and the quality and attention to getting it done right was second to none. They received several requests for proposals during the job and landed them, which is no surprise to me! Job very well done. Would refer to everyone.

Brooks Honeycutt and his roofing crew recently replaced the roof on our home in Zebulon. Two layers of shingles were removed and replaced with architectural shingles. The job was done (including all clean up) in less than 2 days and we are extremely pleased with our new roof. Sta-Dry is professional, reliable and very customer service oriented. They did such a great job at our home that we have already recommended them to several neighbors and friends.

We had our roof replaced. Alpha Omega was prompt, efficient, courteous and thorough in explaining their estimate and the work they would be doing, as well as throughout their actual service. All work and details were completed to our expectations, and they left our property in perfect condition. We had our roof replaced a few years ago, and we have had absolutely no problems with the roof at any time since. I would recommend hiring Alpha Omega for your roofing needs.

Sean walked the roof with me, explaining possible problems and fixes. Explained the proposal figures in detail. The crew showed up on time and went at it.When the old shingles and felt were off, Sean walked the roof again pointing out problem spots and explained the fixes. Excellent product, excellent installation and at a fair price. I would recommend to all my family and friends. Thanks again, Dan Liles

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
