Ilir was informative and knowledgeable about what was happening to our roof. We had some shingles fall off and I appreciate that he did not try to sell us a new roof nor just a quck patch job. Instead he and his crew spent hours doing a detailed repair and I feel much more at ease that we have prolonged the life of our current roof. Thanks American Brothers!

Initially Tom missed our first appointment because he messed his calendar. Then we rescheduled for next day. They showed up on time. They examed the roof carefully, took pictures n explained to me the repairing plan n the cost. Job well done.

Eduardo Manito arrived on time for all aspects of my reroofing job; he guaranteed his work, had 20 years in the business and was very knowledgeable about the serious leaking I had. He told me that the second course of Timberline shingles had been improperly installed resulting in very wet underlayment, which was rotting in some places. My roof was 38 years old. His crew of 6 men replaced 20 sheets of underlayment with new plywood, installed the 27squares of new roof after removing both courses of old shingles in one day. They replaced all flashing and installed it correctly. They cleaned up the yard and answered all my questions, were always PROFESSIONAL, and gave me a very good price for the job. (They beat all their competitors pricing) I called 5 references of five recent jobs they did and all praised their work. I really had no complaints and I will use them again when I do my siding. He came, he saw, and he did. We needed a new roof. We had two weeks before our house went on the market. He fit us in, gave us the best price (we got 6 quotes) for what we needed and then sent over 8 guys. Just what we needed!

Elmar was very professional and nice throughout the whole experience. From beginning to end, he was very responsive, honest, and fair. He gave us a good price on custom-made gutters which we hope will last us a long time. He was very flexible with our schedule (we were dealing with overall roof renovations) and came to work in terrible heat. I really appreciate hard, solid work, and I got just that. I would highly recommend Elmar to anyone. Great job for a fair price, and a very nice, professional person! Thank you!

We had a new roof, gutters, a fence and some other small home maintenance work done. The craftsmanship of all of the work, especially the roof, was superbly done. It's a colonial with particular edges which required hand made solutions to bring it back to its natural glory and that is exactly what was done. We were clients and sometimes students, as time was taken to explain the process, materials being used, alternate solutions etc to ensure that we were comfortable with the job. We would and we have recommended All Remodeling and Construction to others.

Would highly recommend this company if you are in need of a roof. Andreas the owner was on the job with his crew and communicated his findings and recommendations after tearing off the old roof and before installing the new one. We loved Warrior Construction!!

My roof was damaged in several areas, my chimney was falling apart and the flashing was completely missing from around my chimney area. After learning that my roof was not repairable, I called Vincent at Diamond Restoration. Vincent agreed that I was better off replacing the roof because repairing it would only be a temporary fix for a roof that would need replacement in a few years. Vincent took the time to go over everything with me in detail so I understood exactly what needed to be done. I was also happy that his company could perform the masonry work on my chimney. He had a crew come out before the roof was put on to fix the chimney which turned out great. Several days later, his crew came out and efficiently put on my new roof. I had some unexpected damaged to the plywood underneath the shingles and Vincent had his crew rip off and install all the new plywood along with the entire roof in one day. His crew cleaned everything up and the roof looked great! Vincent came back himself to make sure everything was done properly. He even adjusted my downspouts to have the water run into my existing gutters so the roof wouldn't have water constantly dripping down on it from the downspouts. All in all, I was extremely happy with the work and felt Vincent did everything he could to make this a positive experience.

It's been a pleasure to work with Nick and his crew. We needed major exterior work done, new siding, roof repairs and more random work. I have worked with a lot of contractors, and so far Nick’s crew have been impressive. They have the experience and knowledge to give us good recommendations and helped us to save money by reducing the scope of unnecessary work. Their fee are also reasonable, we would have spent much more if not for their experienced inputs. Thank you, guys! Will definitely hire them again.

After a few leaks in my roof I decided to call Five Boro after seeing their truck doing work at my neighbors who was very pleased with his experience after Five Boro fixed his roof. The receptionist was very helpful answering all my questions and setting up my appointment for the following day. The project manager arrived on time and explained my leaks and what needed to be done to fix the problem - he even wrote down notes for me! I scheduled my roof replacement for that weekend and by Monday had a brand new roof. Great crew and great service.

What a great experience. John explained everything as he progressed. The roof was done in one day as were the new gutters. They weren’t the cheapest (the lowest price was from a guy who never even came to my house which made me nervous). They were nowhere near the highest price. It wasn’t just about price...service and quality mattered the most and Blue Nail nailed that!

Dennis and his team are reliable, professional, and often exceed expectations. A little over a year ago they replaced my shingle roof so that we could have solar panels installed. My wife and I were so satisfied with thier work, we brought them back to teplace our flat roof. Again leaving us completely satisfied. I would recommend Dennis and the New Creation team in a heartbeat!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
