What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. I began working with Maik 3 weeks ago. It was winter break for me and I had a ton of spare time so I decided to try working out. At first I had to look for a personal trainer. It did not take long for me to find Maik because of his outstanding resume. Not long after that, I began working with Maik. Every session was extremely challenging but fun at the same time. Our conversations about health and training never seem to end during the whole workout session. Maik was extremely knowledgeable about this and he is also extremely funny. Maik is never late to class and often it would be me who's late because of the MTA. Maik is also very responsive to emails even on weekends. I would highly recommend Maik as a personal trainer and I've seen my body grow in the past few weeks!

Kyle is a great trainer: good energy, polite and soft spoken but determined to help you get the results you want. Excellent knowledge base and yet willing to try other methods. For example, he accommodated my desire to do some boxing incorporating into our routine. A great trainer for young athletes but also for the more mature person (I'm 64), slowing things down a little to suit the fitness level. Always on time, attentive, follows up the next day with a text to make sure you are okay. Available to fit any schedule. A good listener, and just an all around good-hearted person. Highly recommended.

Niko is the man! I have tried to get my husband to work out for 3 years and Niko is the first person to make him do it and enjoy it! We both train with him and every week he mixes up the exercises which I really enjoy. With previous trainers it was the same thing week after week. I actually look forward to working out with him! He is fun, smart and will kick your a**. He is truly passionate about what he does and is a hard worker. Being a medical student, I was very skeptical about getting a personal trainer. But I have to say now that if you have someone who is as experienced and certified as this guy, then you're not just paying for someone to shout motivational lines at you. You're paying for a service that systematically tries to achieve your goal and is very effective at doing so too. I've had 5 sessions so far and no day has been easy, which works amazingly well for my muscles. I absolutely recommend this personal trainer for any fitness goal that you might have because he definitely knows what he's doing and has the experience to back it up

One word: Transformative. If I were asked to name one person who "brought the groove back" to training, it would be Kadian (a.k.a. Niko) 1. Professional 2. Knows what he's doing and talking about. He is a science guy buy doesn't make you listen to a whole science lecture while you're trying to get the position right and count your reps (unlike some trainers.) 3. Listens to your individual needs, and will adjust accordingly 4. Approachable, motivational, and most importantly, makes you look forward to your next session! I've always dreaded working with trainers, but love going to the gym generally (machines used to be heaven!). But I needed to stir things up and my routine was getting too boring, and thankfully, I was sent this angel to guide me. Location is great for me and I look forward to our next session.

i have been training with Brenda for 9 months now and she is great! Before Brenda, I did have a very good trainer in another city but then I moved to NYC, so I knew what the standard was for someone who would push you but also understand your personal needs and tailor the workout to make sure you are satisfied. I used Thumbtack to find a trainer and read positive reviews about Brenda and decided to give it a try--she has lived up to all expectations. Her schedule is flexible so she can meet you when and where is best for you (some trainers' schedules are too packed and if you're 5 minutes late, they take 5 min off the end of your session, or do not let you reschedule a session without giving you a hard time). She tailors the workouts so if you want to do something on a particular day or are feeling a bit sore in one area, she will work around that but still make sure you are getting an intense workout. Brenda is friendly and personable to talk to and will advise you on anything from nutrition to specific workout regimens to improve a muscle group. It's important to find a trainer who you really get along with and feel comfortable around, and I have found it very easy to work with Brenda. I'm 100% satisfied--highly recommended!

Andres is the walking example of a great trainer, combining knowledge and motivation, tailoring each session to suit your needs of the time and the state of your mind. He is result oriented, each session is challenging enough to make you feel the sense of achievement while making sure it's safe. Love that each session starts with total body activation, which I now realize is incredibly crucial and not enough people pay attention to it. I can’t say enough wonderful things about MFG. I have PCOS and as a result, losing the weight has been tougher than ever. I’ve tried various trainers and other exercise regiments over the years. Nothing worked and nothing could help keep me motivated. Fast forward to me finding MFG. Within a day of posting a search for a trainer, Erika from MFG reached out. Erika was so thoughtful, easy to talk to, and dedicated to setting me up with a trainer that could work best with me. Moreover, my schedule tends to be utterly inconsistent and all over the place. Despite it taking me a couple of month to sign up (I had surgery shortly after talking to Erika), I was so focused on getting my health and fitness back on the track to wellness. Even during my surgery and hospitalization, Erika sent me text messages that gave me motivation and support. Truly, Erika, if you’re reading this, that meant the world to me! Once I got clearance to workout, I was set up with Ashley, who in one word is AWESOME. She has PCOS too, so she’s able to give me tips about eating a clean diet that’s good for PCOS sufferers. On top of that, Ashley is so flexible with what times and days she can come by. As someone who thought they hated to workout, thanks to Ashley, I genuinely look forward to post-workout soreness. She got a girl who works 12+ hour days, to work out 6x a week. In short, i can’t say enough wonderful things about MFG. They’re truly caring, super- knowledgeable, motivating and life-changing!

I worked with a personal trainer for one year before moving to NYC. He's the first trainer I experienced here and I had one session with him. He did not show up for the scheduled 2nd session. Here are some additional facts. He showed up on time for the first session after a couple calls and texts to agree on time and cost. Overall, the session went OK with a couple areas can use improvement: 1. provide adequate protection. Especially given that it's the first session that he doesn't really know my strength level, providing protection when I lift weights overhead should be part of the trainer's job. 2. record performance. we performed about 10 exercises and I didn't see him record weight/repetition data. I decided to give me another try on the basis that he seemed to be a nice guy and he provided competitive rate. However, he did not show up at scheduled time. When I text him 15mins past appointment, he text back saying that he have a family emergency so he have to go out of town and he emailed me the previous night. When I mentioned that I received no email, he indicated "I sent it yesterday evening to the one you provided. It may have ended up in your spam, or wasn't delivered. But in any event, you should have your funds back." I doubled checked my spam folder and didn't see anything. People have family emergencies and it's totally fine to cancel sessions for that reason. However, all of our previous communications were via text or phone call. I only provided him my email (over the phone) for paypal billing purpose and have not had any email exchange with him. He choose email which he believe may "ended up in your spam, or wasn't delivered." after having left my voicemails and communicated via texts on multiple occasions. I'm only providing facts here and you can form your own judgement based on the information.

My experience with Brenda has been great! I do not exaggerate when I say that she has changed my life for the better. Brenda is super approachable and has a heart of gold, but she is also extremely knowledgeable and takes her job very seriously. It’s the perfect combination! I reached out to Brenda, because I needed to lose weight in order to fit into my bridesmaid’s dress. Over the course of about two months, I was able to lose more than 20 pounds with her guidance. The dress fit like a glove! The picture is of a different dress I wore soon before and again soon after my trainig sessions. Hi all. Just finished my workout with Ahmet. If you’re reading this and considering him for hire, DO IT. You will leave with the best feeling of accomplishment. My workout lasted an hour. We ran some tests to see my fitness level. I was pushed & encouraged. The workout was challenging, but just enough for me. I was able to pace myself and be challenged to the point of progress and change, and to burn calories and get in shape, but it wasn’t over-bearing. He did not micromanage too much. Instead, he encouraged and pushed me so that I could reach my potential. And I did. You’ll definitely need to eat breakfast first and have some water handy. I saw instant results once I got home and hopped on the scale, haha. I’m super excited for our next session in a couple of days. Ahmet was on time, very easy to talk to and communicate with, polite, knowledgeable on not just fitness and exercises, but nutrition and how the body works, burns calories, and more. I’ve learned a lot of great tips to help me reach my goal, even on my own. Great trainer, great workout, now I need some healthy food! I feel super accomplished and I know if I keep going I have no choice but to reach my goal! And so can you! Next time I’ll try to remember to take photos.
