Joe was great on the 3 story gutter clear out and also helped with pointing out that our house roof had been hit by a large tree branch in the past and was repaired but will need a new roof soon. Thanks Joe!!

The job was completed in one day and the process was seamless. The roofers cleaned up all debris and left my yard cleaner than they found it. I recommend this company fully!!!!!! We had a great experience with Summit Building & Roofing. The Project Manager David worked with my insurance company to get my roof replaced when they initially only wanted to cover half of it. Great job!

River Valley Restoration came in and quickly identified the challenges our roof had developed over 16 years. What I appreciate about this business was their ability to point out the issues, explain the needs and suggest the fix options. And once we decided the action to take, the roofing crew then completed the task in 1 day, and we could not be happier with the new roof we now have. We will be selling the house in about 1 year and I do believer that the saleability of our home just notched up bigtime, nothing like a new roof to kickstart a home sale. I would recommend River Valley to family and friends, the did us right, yes the did.

This was our first Thumbtack experience, and what a great one! Integrity Construction reached out quickly, came out the next morning and the job was done by 9:00! Best of all, the issue was addressed without a sales pitch for a new roof. Jonathan was friendly, professional and a pleasure. Thank you so much!

I am very happy with the work Hi-5 Roofing did on my roof. From the estimate to the final walk through after the job was complete Fernando (regional manager) was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. When he gave me the estimate he worked with me and offered me different options that fit my budget. When I decided to hire him he made sure he got all the proper city permits and any obstruction near my roof such as power lines were taking care of. The materials and crew arrived on the day scheduled and finished the same day. Since I was at work for most of the day Fernando kept me informed of the progress. When they were done my roof looked fantastic! The area around my house and in my garage was cleaned up nicely. Overall I'm a happy customer.

Todd arrived early and did an excellent job. He cleaned the gutters, made necessary repairs, and even gave us some tips on maintaining the wood trim and roof on our Florida room. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The estimate was reasonable and there were no surprises. We definitely got our money's worth, and then some. I'd recommend Todd to anyone and I'll be calling him again for some other projects in the near future.

I was so worried I had to have my entire roof replaced, but after an inspection by Jorge, he told me what the problem was and fixed it. I appreciated the honesty and never felt any pressure to do more than what was needed to address the problem. Very professional!

You guys got it done right the first time! I had two other roofing companies out here, paid them for "fixes" and still had the leak in my sunroom. Thank you for taking the time to diagnose it correctly. Your price was VERY reasonable and the tech was super nice! Thanks!

Kim and Joe have done several projects for us starting from simple handy man jobs to complex electrical work. The most complex work they have done for us is the installation of large chandelier on a chandelier lift. This chandelier is very large (4 feet X 4 feet) and has 180 hand blown pieces of glass. What we love the most about their work is how professionally they handle all aspects of the work.

I had Sears Home Improvement side my home in February. The Sears Home Improvement staff and the team that was contracted to do the job were easy to work with. Despite awful weather (It rained heavily seven of the eight days it took to complete the job) the installation team never complained and worked long hours to see the project through. The new siding has made my home a standout in the neighborhood.

When there was something unforeseen, he advised us immediately and resolved it with our permission. His professionalism, accountability, and truthfulness made all the difference. Tom and his crew showed up in an emergency situation on a Sunday when a large tree limb crashed through my roof. It was below freezing and there was a couple inches of snow on the roof. He quickly tarped it and fixed it in a couple days. I was very grateful he took concern with my situation and very pleased with his work. Highly recommended!!! Scott E.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
