I needed help in cleaning out furniture, trash, clothing, appliances, in an old house from attic to cellar. Glenn was knowledable in the "art" of discerning trash from treasure and provided a team of workers who hustled to get the job done!

Chris did a awesome job working with me on the installation of my John Louis Home closet organizers. we encountered some problems on the installation with the walls in the closet not being square, so we had to cut and fit the shelving. This job toke more time because of the extra work that was required, overall we were very happy with the end result. Chris's knowledge of woodworking really helped. I would highly recommend Chris to my friends, and if I need help on another project I will be calling on him again

I met Josh and some of his crew the summer of 2012 when I did some research on one of the "Lists" looking for a company to rebuild my rapidly deteriorating deck. I had personal contact with 3 contractors and right away both my wife and I liked Josh's attitude, his experience and his ability to dedicate a few people to get started on our new deck. They did a fantastic job in record time and we were more than happy with the entire project. Our family and friends wanted the name of the company that did the job and of course we gave them Josh's name and phone number. Josh made our deck out of Ipe wood from Brazil (spelled Ipe and pronounced “ee-pay”), and this hardwood will outlast the entire house because its density and hardness. We have had Josh come back 2 times over the years to refinish the deck and it appears as if it was brand new every time he puts the finish on it. Based on his expertise, his willingness to make his crew available anytime we need them and just the over all experience with NW Outdoor Living has made Josh one of our "go-to guys" when we need woodwork or reconstruction work done. I strongly recommend him and his company for any construction work. P.S. I could take some photos and email them to anyone who might be interested.

It was a pleasure working with Craft Carpentry and Woodworks. His diligence and professionalism showed throughout his work. He was very easy to work with and very helpful with my constant questions and new ideas. We had a kitchen and staircase/entry remodel on our basic 90’s home. And now I can’t get enough of how beautiful it looks, like straight out of a magazine. Not only did he do the big projects, but was also eager to build us a custom bench and coat rack as well as a dining table. Our home has become warm and inviting with the quality woodworking throughout. He is a master in his trade. Very happy with everything. See attached pics.

Noah Cross worked on our entire kitchen cabinet install. The work was done flawlessly. Noah's personality is infectious and is easy to work with. He kept us informed with progress and suggestions to make things work at the best cost. After the cabinet install we contracted Noah to install our bead board, crown molding and baseboard. He has the expertise and experience to do detailed wood work. The job he did for us was perfect. We recently got Noah back to install brackets and our open shelving. We would recommend anyone to hire Noah for any job form basic to high end detailed work. He has the knowledge, tools and the desire for everything to be perfect.

Hello, my name is Jeremy Titus. I have been working for general contractors for 14 years. The three companies I worked for in those years were very small with only a couple of employees. My bosses loved my hard work and good attitude so I moved my way to lead carpenter fairly quick. I believe in taking pride in my work, being enthusiastic, self motivated, and taking time to ensure my customer is happy with the job, no matter what the job is! I am just starting out on my own and have references upon request from customers I've worked for, and I have a 100% satisfaction rate. No job is too big or too small, so call me for a free quote. I will also consult with the do it yourselfers for a small fee.

Coming from a background in art and design and with almost 15 years of construction experience I am uniquely positioned to offer design and construction services with great attention to detail, a stellar team of sub-contractors, and the ability to work with clients on designing beautiful pieces.

About

Right now, I am building patio furniture in my shop. Previously, I owned a remodeling company, a water line company, and a roofing company. I was a journeyman carpenter and foreman with the carpenters' union. I was a superintendent in the private sector and a project manager up until the depression, when most, if not all, construction ended. I had been a commercial fisherman in Alaska and a gold miner. I have an old-school work ethic, but my best qualities, I feel, are my demand for perfection -- which means 'good enough' is not in my vocabulary -- and my knack for solving problems -- for instance, in my shop if I can't find or buy something I need, I can make it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
