Prepared interior walls, provided interior paint work, repaired brick and cement work and weatherproofed the exterior with sealant. Work was done right, quickly, at a fair price and took care of the "little things" discovered along the way. Would definitely hire ADAD again.

Sherman Keller did a fantastic job replacing my wood shake roof with asphalt shingles. He also replaced my enclosed porch roof, which had ant damage and loads of rotten wood. Sherman showed me the amount of damage and explained how he would repair and replace it with new wood. He also took the two skylights apart and replaced all the old seals with fresh sealant. I am very happy with his professionalism and timely response to get the work done between storms. I would recommend Sherman Construction to anyone who needs work completed properly. In fact, I mentioned him to my neighbor who needs some roof repairs and they are getting a quote from him. He also was very diligent in cleaning up after each day and at the end of the job.

We had work done on a large wood deck (repair, power wash, and stain) on our house. We reached out to several contractors before deciding to use Michael Madonna and his team. We appreciated that they are a family-run business with 30+ years of experience. It was a pleasure working with Michael Madonna and his team from start to finish. Michael and his team were responsive, professional, and provided an honest assessment of the scope and cost of the project. They delivered on time and on budget without any hiccups. Because of the great work they did, we are planning to use them for other major remodeling/contracting work to be done on our house.

They replaced the roof of our 117 year old house first removing four layers of slate, wood, shingles and cedar. The work was professional and high quality. They did a great job of cleaning up and answered any questions we had along the way. I would recommend them.

They were awesome, from the first meeting with the salesman to final installation. The salesman was very knowledgeable, he answered all my questions and gave me multiple options to chose from. It was nice being happy with the choices I made. Then the customer service people were great. I have a very difficult schedule and they worked with me. The installers were on time and very quick and did quality work. They cleaned up excellently and even dealt with my crazy dog. I had a new roof installed, siding, soffit, windows and doors replaced. They were so great to deal and quality products that I used then three times. The roof siding, soffit, and three windows, then 9 windows then the windows were so good , I also replaced 9 more that were only 10 years old. The price was very affordable considering all the estimates I got. I recommend them 100%.

I am 100% satisfied with Tom Barnabei's General Contracting Company. What impressed me most was Tom's professionalism and and friendly customer service attitude. I felt very well taken care of; not only was the work expertly handled, he was always willing to stop and explain what was happening and then make any changes if they were necessary. He is very easy to work with and accessible to the customer. I called him in for a simple paint and patch job for my living room, post electrical work. The original company I hired to do the electric work messed up the job and were impossible to secure a finish date. I mentioned to Tom that we had to delay the paint and patch in order to get a new electrician. Tom took care of everything and had his electrician's out to my house the very next day. They were on time, courteous and most importantly, they corrected the first poorly done work and finished everything in record time. Once the electric work was completed, Tom sent his patch and paint guys out to the house to take care of the holes and restore the rooms to their original beauty. I was so pleased with his timeliness, professionalism and ability to get things done that I hired him to build a wood workshop in my basement . It turned out wonderfully and while he was down there he fixed the leaky valves on my washing machine and a few other plumbing issues. I have to say, if you need work done whether in a dire emergency or just a leisurely renovation, Tom Barnabei is the man to hire. I look forward to using his company for all my future projects!

We had a roof leak that caused drywall and hardwood floor damage. Excellent painters and did a good job with vinyl flooring. The family contractors did a great job at a reasonable price. Everything was restored to good as new. They are very hard and efficient workers. Very polite, start early and finish late. Maintain a very clean work area. They removed all trash and left a very orderly work area each day. We definitely would hire them again and recommend them to others.

Honestly can not say enough glowing things about House And Home Exterior Remodeling - Don't even bother with anyone else or you'll be sorry!!! I spent HOURS...DAYS...researching roofing companies when we moved into our home and the first rainstorm brought leaks & drips in various places...only to find out that we needed to have the WHOLE roof redone (we had Cal-Shake, which is horrible old material). I remembered that my old friend Max had started a roofing company some years back and tracked him down for a quote. His price was very reasonable in comparison to all the others and his Yelp reviews showed promise, plus I know he's a good soul, so my husband and I decided to have him do our roof. WE ARE SOOOOO HAPPY with EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of the job that was done!!! Not only is Max the most honest, wonderful human being, but his crew was amazing! Normally construction crews are loud, messy, and pretty annoying to have around...Not these guys!!! Every worker that was at our house was nice, respectful, clean - besides the obvious banging, we would have never known they were here! They worked crazy fast, and left the property so clean every day that I was blown away and all my previous anxieties about having our roof done were squashed. Not that I expect to have to call on them any time soon, but I'll never again even think of calling any other roofing companies, and will undoubtedly send everyone I know to House And Home Best Roofing Company. Call them. You WILL be happy! Yet another well deserved 5 star review!! :)

He was so pleasant and he explained everything to me. If there was any thing that I didn't like he took his time and said it over. I have a bay roof and on my bay roof there where slates he took the slates off and any damage wood. He replaced it with new shingles and he even had a display booklet so I can pick the shingles I wanted on my house.

We had a very pleasant experience working with Bob Childs and his team. Bob provided a competitive estimate and scope of work vs other contractors that we consulted. Bob has done prior work for family members and we were impressed with this overall quality of work and attention to detail. As expected, the project had some weather related delays given winter weather and outdoor temperatures. Throughout the course of the project, Bob and his team striped our existing garage down to the studs and rebuilt the entire exterior, including new sheathing, rigid foam insulation, wrap, etc. We choose to use Hardi's panel fiber cement siding in order to retain our farm-house\barn look. Bob completed the installation perfectly, following the manufacture's requirements throughout the install. All trim was done in a wood grain PVC trim material, providing the look/feel of wood along with superior weather resistance. Bob also oversaw the installation of our new garage door as well, which was nice for coordination. Overall, Bob did a great job. He is very attentive to detail and is a good source of knowledge for a homeowner when looking to take on an improvement project. We will definitely consider using his company again for future needs. Our garage is the envy of the neighborhood! Description of work: Provided a complete exterior refacing of garage, including new sheathing, rigid foam insulation, and hardi plank siding. Used very best materials with all PVC trim and fiber cement siding. Oversaw the installation of new carriage garage door.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
