I started taking lessons only a short time ago but I'm making huge progress with the help of Michael. He's patient, he takes the time to explain the more complicated concepts, and he does it in a way that makes sense. I feel like I experience a lot of "aha!" moments during our lessons which, of course, makes it more enjoyable. I think it's his logical and efficient method of teaching that works for me and I think it would work extremely well for others. Additionally, I get homework after each lesson and the exercises I'm advised to practice do a lot to improve my technique throughout the week. Michael has helped me go from feeling really awkward to feeling like I have some actual talent at guitar and I'm excited for our future lessons. He never makes me feel stupid for not getting a concept and my confidence builds every time we work together. If you're looking for a guitar teacher, don't go any further! Michael is proving to be a fantastic teacher and I'd recommend his lessons to anyone picking up guitar for the first time.

My 10 year old was getting bored with his previous instructor's teaching methods and had been begging us to drop guitar lessons. We thought we would try a different instructor. We've had only one meeting, but I saw a light reappear in my son's eyes and he is excited to start lessons with Jon. The video lessons and use of newer computer technology and has my son excited and motivated to keep learning to play.

My lessons have been fun as well as educational covering both necessary fundementals and fun stuff! He is very personal and welcoming. I take my lessons in his lovely home and am always made to feel comfortable. He has been very accomodating and understanding when I have had scheduling issues and he makes prompt return contact. I would recommend him as a teacher.

I had the pleasure of learning music theory and Piano fundamentals from Sophia and I could not have chosen a better person. She helped me learn to read music from scratch, and simplified the learning experience with great techniques, which definitely helped me pick up music fast. II would 100% recommend Sophia to anyone who's looking to improve or begin their piano lessons. Also, Sophia's delightful humor and flexibility in offering make-up classes are bonus. Sophia, I wish you all the very best and thank you for your efforts in helping me begin my journey ! You're the best! Vivek

I'm glad to have my boys to be taking lessons from a male teacher (which gives them a different perspective and experience). It's also motivating for them to see Kyle playing at church.

Michael is quite proficient in both his own abilities on guitar and also his ability to teach. He is patient, and happy to answer all my questions which I appreciate as an intermediate-level guitarist. He was happy to tailor my lessons to specific areas that I already knew I wanted to address, as opposed to forcing me into a highly structured, pre-determined lesson plan, which again I appreciate. I highly recommend Michael for anyone looking to become a better guitar player and musician.

Pete is awesome! I started taking lessons from him just over a year ago. Having had no formal training prior, he was able to teach me a version of Ben folds’ the luckiest which I then played for my wife on our wedding day just a few short months later. He works with you to make sure you know the basics but also keeps it fun. It’s been clear from the start that he has a passion for music as well as the patience and enthusiasm for anyone seeking to learn more about the instrument and music in general. Highly recommend.

Zach taught me bass guitar for almost two years and it went extremely well. The lessons I received from him were fast paste whether it was jazz or funk the music I learned was new and awesome to me. We covered some very fundamental rules and jazz standards that helped take me to the next step. Seems like Zach knows a lot about what he's doing.

We hired Anthony to teach our 11 yr old daughter how to play the guitar. This is her first instrument. Anthony was a pure delight to work with, was always on time and sometimes even stayed a little over to make sure the lesson(s) were taught. He even helped us find a GOOD guitar for our daughter. Our daughter looked forward to each lesson with Anthony. He even broadened his lessons to include vocal coaching as well. I would highly recommend Anthony for anyone needing a music or vocal coach.

The Sound Foundation has been outstanding to us, especially my son. Norman has done everything possible to see that my son receives his guitar lessons. The Sound Foundation makes you feel at home. He is the most friendliest guy I have met and also, super understanding. My son has learned a lot from his instructor and has picked up some skills. Thank you The Sound Foundation!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
