I received excellent service from the Sweetwater Plumbing company. He was there on time and resolved my drain clog as best he could. A camera check revealed I have a busted sewer line and roots are causing the blockage, but Cordrey was able to clean out the blockage and get the water draining. I will need to have the sewer line replaced and I have already been provided an estimate from Sweetwater to have that work done in a month or two.

very professional!!! I was impressed with his troubleshooting knowledge of the issues and ability to get them repaired. you can tell he knows what he's doing right away. he had all necessary tools and extra parts needed on hand. what had taken other "pros" 2 days and about 5-6 hours total to try and repair and install, Halo Services completed in 1 hour. I'll definitely be calling him back for all my repairs and installations.

I don't think I have ever worked with a professional with more integrity than Gary. He made 2 trips to my home, the first to assess and the second to do the scheduled repairs to a leaking drain pipe from my kitchen. There was no trip charge! He made one cut and found the problem. He did a fantastic job AND made some adjustments to my front door so that it would close easier at N/C because it was bothering him! I'm positive that this would have been an insurance claim and $$$$ of dollars with a Corporate "chain" plumber. I was expecting to pay more than what he charged. Thanks Gary! I'll call you again.....

What a nice, helpful guy. What I thought was a problem turned out to be such an easy fix that no replacement or repair was needed. If he wanted to, he could have really gouged me and told me I needed repairs or replacement and I wouldn't have been any wiser. Glad there are still good, honest people out there. Will definitely use again!

Brandon responded quickly and communicated several times regarding his arrival. He was honest and went above and beyond to fix a broken kitchen faucet. He addressed other things that neeeded addressing and promised to come back and install a new faucet at a reduced price. I'd recommend him for your next plumbing repair.

Davon provided plumbing services for me. He worked cleanly and quickly to replace a water heater and check all gas and water lines. He also removed an existing tub and surround fixture, and plumbed the area for a walk-in shower. He is knowledgeable and very nice to work with.

I had a problem with a toilet that was spraying water out of the top of the tank after each flush, even when the tank was securely closed with its matching lid. It is a very unusual type of toilet having a combination bowl and tank. PoMan correctly diagnosed the problem, special-ordered the parts, and returned to install the parts in a timely and professional manner. I highly recommend PoMan Plumbing to fix your plumbing problems.

Little Jon’s plumbing are my hero’s! Working long into the night for two nights Jon would not give up on finding the problem with my plumbing. It turned out that a subcontractor doing work next door had fractured my sewer line and hidden the damage. Jon helped me to provide the information necessary to get the subcontractor to own and repair the line. I really don’t know what I would have done without Jon’s expertise. His prices were competitive and he offered flexible evening hours. I cannot recommend this plumber enough. Truly the best!

Tarus took care of fixing the water damage from a bathroom leak upstairs at my home as well as running data lines and putting together 2 desks at my new office. His attention to detail, reliability and hard work was fantastic. I just hope all these positive recommendations won't make him to busy to help me next time I need him! In all seriousness, great guy and great job.

Manny is awesome and extremely knowledgeable about anything plumbing related. We actually had drain issues with our sewer (on the driveway) and Manny came out, used a camera to inspect it, and gave us such helpful information about what needs to be done next. His price is extremely reasonable, and very helpful for those on a tight budget. He is professional, polite, friendly, and again, very knowledgeable about what he does. I highly recommend Aqua Long Plumbing for anyone who needs a reputable, trustworthy company!

Ron looked over everything with me for free, was open to price negotiation and gave me sound advice on what was my best options. I had a privacy fence and a smaller divider fence to contend with, and helped me with both! His interests were definitely making sure I was happy with the results and got the best bang for my buck. He even went and tracked down my neighbor who shared the property line with me to discuss the plans! not to mention that he was out there working the very next day. He's definitely my go-to contractor.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often do you clean a septic tank?

For homeowners with a septic system, it’s important to have a regular septic cleaning schedule. To protect ground and drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends residential septic cleaning every three years. Many septic system companies state that you can maintain a healthy system with regular septic cleanings every three to five years. In addition to cleaning, a septic tank inspection once a year will uncover problems and can save you thousands in cleanup and repair.

When waste goes into your septic system, it separates into three parts. The solids (sludge) drop to the bottom, wastewater floats in the middle, and a layer of scum rises to the top. Regularly scheduled cleanings prevent the sludge in your septic tank from building up and clogging your tank, leading to an overflow. Pricing for a standard septic cleaning ranges between $200 and $500, with the national average cost at $315. It’s easier, more cost-effective, and better for your home health to keep your septic tank maintained.

Who pumps septic tanks?

Septic system professionals pump septic tanks. Pros in different states will have different licensing and certification regulations. Make sure the company you hire is licensed and certified, is a legitimate business, and has the appropriate insurance. Damage to your septic system could cost thousands of dollars in cleanup and repair, so it’s best to hire a qualified professional from the start.

Using an industrial-strength vacuum hose connected to a tanker truck, the septic tank company will pump out the contents of your tank. First they break up the scum of the top layer, then mix the sludge (on the bottom) into the wastewater for removal. To get all the sludge and scum from the tank, pros may use a tool called a septage spoon that loosens stubborn waste from the sides of the tank. After the tank is hosed down and empty, it is inspected for any cracks or leaks that could lead to trouble in the future. The waste in the truck is then transported and disposed of at a waste management treatment center, a cesspool or an approved dumping site.

When should you clean a septic system?

Experts agree that you should clean your septic system every three to five years for optimal system health and safe water. You should also have it inspected every year to catch minor issues before they become major. If you think you may be overdue for a septic cleaning, here are signs that you should call a pro immediately.

  • You’re at capacity: If the bottom of the scum layer is within six inches of the bottom of the tank’s outlet or if the top of the sludge layer is within 12 inches of the outlet, your tank needs to be pumped, according to the EPA.
  • It stinks: If you can smell wastewater, call a pro right away to clean your tank, pipes and field.
  • Sewage backup: Raw sewage backing up into the pipes in your home is no fun. The pros can pump out your pipes, clean your tanks and clear any clogs, but it will be a complex and messy job.
  • Pooling water: Water collecting around your tank or drain field can be a sign you need to clean your septic system.
  • Super grass: If the grass above your septic system drain field suddenly gets vibrantly green and lush, the septic tank leak could be leaking sewage and fertilizing your lawn in unwanted ways. Call a pro to inspect it right away.

How much is it to clean a septic tank?

Nobody wants their septic tank to back up. Regular septic cleaning and pumping is important to keep your ground and drinking water protected from harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends septic system cleaning every three years. The national average cost for a septic tank specialist is $315. Costs for septic cleaning may vary based on where you live, how large your septic tank is, and how long it has been since the last cleaning. If it’s been many years since you’ve had your tank cleaned, the process of breaking up and removing the solids may take longer and could cost more. Typical residential septic tanks range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons. The price range for septic cleaning usually averages $200-$500, with varying by tank size. Repairs or replacement parts will also add to your cost. To keep your septic tank in good health between cleanings, only flush approved items such as toilet paper, and don’t rely on your garbage disposal for composting. Items that don’t break down easily (like lemon rinds or feminine hygiene products) can back up the septic system, leading to clogs and overflow. If you smell the unmistakable odor of sewage or can see sewage bubbling up above your drain field, call for a septic cleaning immediately.
