Dion came out and gave me a bid on the project and showed me samples of the gutter and several leaf guards. We had a couple of weather delays but Dion kept me informed about the revised schedule. Dion and his brother did an excellent job tearing off the existing gutters and installing a complete set of replacement rain gutters with leaf guards on our home. They did a good job of cleaning up the job site when they were done. Dion was able, for a nominal fee, to reinstall the heating cables that were disturbed by the roofers who had previously replaced my shingles. They did a very professional job on the heating cables and the new gutters. I would recommend them to anyone needing this type of work.

Mike was great. He completed my roofing project quickly and with a higher standard of quality then most contractors (you should see the butcher job my neighbor got from a different company, I'll give them mikes number when their roof fails). I will definitely be hiring them again with out hesitation.

Gerald recently finished a huge roof project on my home in Sugar House. It is a 100-year old house that had 4 layers of shingles, with bowed and cracking trusses in the attic. I received 4 bids from other companies, all of which came in more expensive than Gerald's. His company had the best warranty-rating, and the best Owen's Corning rating, so I chose them...and I'm very glad that I did. He scheduled the project at time that worked well for me, and his team finished it to perfection in less than 2 days. They fully reinforced the attic framing, and the new roof looks amazing. I highly recommend Gerald, with Intermountain West Contractors, to anyone looking into roofing companies in Utah.

Kyle responded within seconds and got here literally 20 minutes later. He gave me an honest opinion on what needed to be fixed or needed attention and gave me great pricing on what it would cost to repair. He even gave me ideas on how to save money on my project. I would definitely recommend this guy to come look at your roofing issues!

Firstly, Israel was the first to call yesterday and offered to come by the same afternoon. I had a difficult problem that Israel quickly diagnosed and offered a solution. He came early this morning and had the work completed and problem solved as promised. I plan to use RE Roofing to replace the roof on my house this spring - after the snow stops flying! Thank you for providing your service so that I had the opportunity to find Israel Sosa.

I would highly recommend Jose for any roofing needs. He has excellent professionalism and did an outstanding job on my carport roof. He went beyond what was expected by making sure the roof wouldn't leak and the bid was more than reasonable. He was so willing to work with my schedule and the thing I really appreciated was that he was in contact with me through Thumbtack on a daily basis. Great Job Jose!!!

David Hansen finished my basement. He framed a little bathroom, installed a shower, toilet, and sink, including the water to each of those. He added lighting for the bathroom and installed a pocket door and floor tiles. He did the dry wall, texturing and painting for the bathroom and the adjacent bedroom in the project. There was a plumbing exhaust pipe running across the room below ceiling level, and he was able to cover that with a wood covering that looks like a beam across the ceiling. He finished the room off with a door he hung, including handles and moulding. I am very happy with his work, and his reasonable rates. I would definitely hire him again! As an added bonus, he made a headboard for the bed in the room.

I can't say enough about what a great job Constantino/Brother's roofing did on my landscaping job. He is very friendly and professional, has a great knowledge of what he is doing, and gave me honest feedback when I was struggling to select rock colors and sizes (and boy was he right!!). He worked quickly, put up with my dogs, and spent extra time fixing the sprinkler timer for me. Overall a great experience and a pleasure doing business with them!

I needed a quick quote for a pending home purchase with VERY short deadlines, and Smitty was extremely helpful. He was very quick to respond, went out the same day, and sent back a very reasonable written quote quickly as well. The seller ended up replacing the roof for us so we did not need to move forward on our end, but if we had we would not have hesitated to hire Superior Home Improvement. Great experience all around, thank you for your help!

My window well kept filling with water and flooding my basement. I called my landlord, who in turn called Kore Investments LLC Property Maintenance Solutions. They were out the SAME morning, getting the flooding stopped and finding out the cause. There was ahuge snowstorm and it wasn't safe on the roof and i thought Christmas was ruined because it wasn't supposed to stop until after Christmas. But the 23rd Jen emailed and said she wanted to try and work a Christmas miracle. She sent Roofers out ASAP and now my basement is better than new. They were prompt, they kept their promises and cleaned up after themselves. They kept me informed and never left me guessing. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

He provided multiple options and clear pricing, along with his recommendation. Once we decided to move forward with the work he was able to schedule and complete it in under a week.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
