Brandon was great! I initially had ordered my own parts from Amazon but they never arrived. Brandon picked up the repair parts on the way to my house and the repair was speedy, professional, and correct. Will definitely use again if needed and recommend to any who needs plumbing service.

Mr. Lewis was prompt and very courteous. He explained everything he was doing and gave me money saving tips which was much appreciated. The work was timely and he cleaned up after everything he did. One thing I really like is that he has you inspect his work before he leaves. This is one professional that I will very highly recommend if you have any plumbing needs.

I'm in the process of remodeling a kitchen and my GC cannot finish the job (long story). Enter Thumbtack. I put out a request and 24/7 responds quickly. They tell me they can get someone out the next day (non emergency). I provide them with my contact info, availability, and address and I get an appointment confirmation. The next day I get a call that the plumber is on his way. He showed up on time, was courteous and finished off the dishwasher installation. That would be great except it wasn't quite so easy. Turns out the line connecting the dishwasher to the plumbing under the sink was too short. No problem, he had an extension piece in his truck. Crisis averted. Then I was missing a washer. No problem he had one in his bag. Then the dishwasher wasn't level. He fixed that. Then I was missing a couple of screws (ha ha) but he had those in his car as well. Finally, it was time to test the dishwasher...but the water did not come on. At that point he realized that the water had been shut off. The question was where. We went to the street to look at the meter but it seemed fine. Then I told him that the main line access for the house was in the crawl space but that the key to the lock on the door was lost. No problem. He took my bolt cutters, removed the lock and crawled in to turn the water back on. Turns out it was not turned off at that source so it had to be in the house. He returned to the kitchen and like a snake crawled under my sink and found an additional valve that had been turned to the off position. He opened it up and voila! This man went above and beyond. They should be the first person you call if you have an issue.

They’re as professional and dedicated as they come. I lucked out. Their expertise and familiarity with all plumbing jobs really showed in the range of work I had in my house: fridge, garbage disposal, toilets and sinks.

I would definitely recommend His Grace Plumbing and Drain Clean Services. Gabriel went out of his way to come out on the weekend last minute to install a water heater for us at a very reasonable price. They even picked up the equipment for us from the store and didn’t get upset when we had to wait longer than expected for our water heater. We will for sure use them in the future.

Last Spring, Brandon Contractor LLC completed several projects in my home with excellent quality and customer service! I had recently purchased a foreclosure and was looking for a reliable contractor to complete a few projects. Mr. Vega and I met so that I could share my vision for the projects that I wanted completed - a small window cut in the wall above the kitchen sinking looking into the living room, refinishing the front door, backsplash in the kitchen and painting the upstair hallway and stairway. We met to pick out materials and I was allowed to provide my input as well as receive suggestions from Mr. Vega that would improve the overall job. When the work begun, a possible concern was noted by Mr. Vega and his team with plumbing. It was addressed immediately. All of the projects were completed in a timely manner and I am extremely satisfied with the outcome! The team was professional, courteous and the pricing was great! I often receive complements from visitors to my home and I plan to use the company again in the near future to spruce up my patio. I highly recommend Brandon Contractor LLC for any of your home improvement projects!

Ernesto responded quickly to my request and was able to schedule the appointment based on my availability. He corrected the wiring for the thermostat but figured out that our HVAC fan was not working properly. He took his time to figure out what the problem is and recommended us contacting the company since it would be covered under warranty. He was very thorough with his work.

To my surprise, he actually did a great job with all the plumbing issues at my house. I think he was fair with his prices as well. Very responsive, punctual and prompt on getting the work done. I had work done a good two weeks ago, and so far everything is great. Would definitely hire again. In fact, have more work lined up for him already. Plus, he followed up on his own on one of the issues we're currently working on. Definitely worth giving him a chance if this is your first time and you're looking for a plumber\handyman.

Patrick successfully installed our new bathtub, new cut-off valves, and a replacement sink faucet, and he attempted to fix our drippy shower (but it would not cooperate--probably have to replace the whole thing). He was a good communicator and had a calm, professional manner, despite some hiccups in our old plumbing. He persevered through several necessary trips to the hardware store and an emergency call-back to his main day job, but he was willing to work late hours and on a Sunday to finish it up. And the price was very competitive.

David was on time and completed the job to perfection. I was worried about damage to my new tiles with old flange removal and installation but David and his associate were very careful to remove and install toilet flange and new toilet without any damage. Would recommend and use again for plumbing jobs. Thank you!

We had a good experience with Exceptional Plumbing so far. Jones was very responsive, and he committed to his promise. He came to our apartment for a free inspection and gave professional advices on where we could install washer/dryer. When we told him our trouble with a clogged sink, he immediately found out the cause and solved it on spot, without charging anything. He was very patient and quiet. We would be happy to go with him for a plumbing project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

How much does it cost to install a hot water heater?

You’ll know when it’s time to install a new water heater. Water heater installation costs average between $360 and $780 nationally, with rates increasing depending on the project. The total project cost will be higher when you include the cost of the heater itself. Select your new water heater based on the number of occupants in your home and the number of gallons of capacity you’ll need. Installation costs can vary based on the type of water heater you are removing and the type you are installing, any necessary repairs, regional cost of labor, and whether disposal of the old heater is included. Natural gas water heaters retail on average between $650 and $900 for standard models. Electric water heaters range between $300 and $700 for standard models. Tankless electric water heaters retail on average between $250 and $700 for standard models. Tankless gas water heaters retail on average between $200 and $1,300.

A company may charge approximately $1,000 to replace a 50-gallon tank-style electric water heater (not including any upgrades required by building codes). Replacing a gas-powered water heater might cost $1,100 (not including code upgrades). Some companies roll the disposal of an old heater into the overall cost of the new water heater installation. Other professionals charge an additional removal fee that can range from $35 to $150.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
