Sanford is absolutely amazing! He is professional and dedicated and truly cares about his clients and their goals. He is very knowledgeable about exercise/training and the science behind working out. Always showing up on time and never missing a session, he encourages you throughout each workout and pushes you to your limits. I always leave his gym feeling great! He changes up routines, which is great for both your muscles and keeping the workouts interesting. He quickly learns about you as an individual and tailors workouts specific to your needs and likes. He doesn't only train you, but works out WITH you like a workout partner. This not only makes me feel like I can do it, it allows me to learn proper form for each exercise. I have been working out with Sanford for a couple of weeks now and I am already developing strength and definition, which is a goal of mine. You will not be disappointed giving Sanford a call! Not to mention...he plays great music!

I have been training with Winfrey for awhile now and I can say at age 44, I'm in the best shape I've ever been in! He has designed workouts that are specific to my needs and he also helped me recover from a major shoulder surgery! I'm far from where I want to be, however, he has helped me lose over 20 pounds and I've gone from a solid size 12/14 to a size 8. If you are ready to meet your health, fitness and nutrition goals, Winfrey can help get you there! He is a genuine person who is eager to help you feel better! I will be a client until the day he closes his doors:) Thank You Winfrey

Awesome workouts! You don't get stuck doing the same routine each time. Very flexible scheduling to match your needs. One on one training to push you, but not break you. Focus on how to move correctly and not just throw weights. Highly recommend!

Hello, I’m a 52 woman. I’ve exercised most of my life however not consistently and I thought I was eating pretty clean. But being premenopausal I gained 20lbs and couldn’t get it off! I changed my diet several times and even started running to finish my first 10K at 51. But nope couldn’t drop those 20lbs…… So I started researching PT’s on the web. I did know that a gym wasn’t for me. Also I tried different classes already and it just didn’t motivate me. My occupation causes me to sit most of the day so that didn’t help but not an excuse, I know. I also knew I wanted a woman trainer that would be patient with my bad knees etc. I did want to lean up build muscle but avoid injury is most important. Over all be a healthy body and mind! I was new to the area so didn’t have any good referrals but found Natalie Kimball on thumbtack. I then checked out her webpage NatalieKimballFitness.com. So I decided to meet for a consultation and yes I was bias because she was young. However I’ve had PT in the past and Natalie brought a new perspective for me. She spoke on how posture, balance and core were what we needed to focus on first. Plus I started her BackToBasics nutrition plan. I ♥ her positive, kind and encouraging nature most of all! I started training with her twice a week, along with her nutrition plan. And yes started seeing REAL results in just a few months to reach personal goals. Most of all she has made me see things differently about how body and mind can = good or bad health. I’m grateful to have found her and to call her my friend. So contact her even it’s just a consultation just need to start somewhere! ☺ Sherry VA Beach

Sasha is an amazing trainer and so motivating. Watching her journey motivated me to get in shape myself. I have been doing online training with her for a few months now and I am very pleased with my results. She gave me the tools and knowledge while I put in the work and I cannot be more grateful. The only complaint I have is that she's across the states and I can't train with her one-on-one ;)

Renall has been my personal trainer since September 2015. When I decided to make the commitment to myself to be healthier and stronger, I had no background in working out other than cardio-type of exercising. I knew that I needed an experienced personal trainer to help guide me on this journey. When I first met with Renall, he showed genuine interest in learning about me and what my goals were. He developed a work out program customized for me and my fitness level. His focus has always been and continues to be on helping me attain my health/fitness goals and keeping me on track. He takes the time to give me feedback and reevaluate to help me stay focused. He is prepared for each session and gives 100% of his attention to ensure that I am using proper form to avoid injury and utilizing my time with him to get maximum results. He also provides recommendations, guidance and support outside of our sessions to help keep me focused and motivated, which is something I definitely need! Since I began training with Renall, I have seen the results in my body and more importantly, I feel them. I am stronger and my energy level has improved. With his help, I have proven to myself that I CAN DO THIS! I highly recommend Renall to anyone looking to improve their fitness level and attain their personal fitness goals. He is a knowledgeable, experienced professional that is committed to his clients. Monica R.

Angela is best and I saw the significant results after we started the training. We use to train 2 days a week from may of 2016 and I'm very disappointed that she has to move away to different place. She custom designed a meal plan and workout sets for me and that helped me a lot. Also, she is very good at motivation and pushing the thresholds to improve the endurance and agility training.

Doug helped me out a lot and completely accelerated my progress in the gym by teaching me the most effective way to train. His attitude and commitment to helping his clients is absolutely superb and I would definitely recommend him as a personal trainer. He trained me only one time per week and the results from the training sessions were really incredible. I got so much stronger in the least amount of time. All my family members were impressed. Overall 5 out of 5 excellent!

I love this class and working with Coach Lei. Every week is different and fun. She finds ways to make working out not such a chore while still making you sweat!!! When class is over you’re both exhausted and sad. She’s also very flexible when it comes to personal training and personal goals. I can’t say enough about my experience over the past year with Da Firma. We (myself and my children) love being part of this “family”

I started training with Mattie a few weeks ago. Our sessions are about 1 hour and she also develops a cardio plan for me to complete each week. She has been doing a fantastic job providing a fitness routine for me while being in the first trimester of pregnancy. She is a knowledgeable personal trainer who is helping me achieve a healthy pregnancy. Not only has she made me feel comfortable but was a great person to talk to during our sessions. I would definitely recommend her as a trainer!

Completely satisfy. After giving birth to my daughter I got comftable and lazy. I loved it how he customized the workout to focus on re building strength. My goals are not to only lose weight but to get tone too. His flexible schedule allows me to be able to schedule workout sessions that fits my schedule. What He does different is that in between sessions he sends out reminders and inspirational pep talks to help me stay on track and not get discourage on days I wake up sore ! His unique recipes has help me plan new different meal plans for the week. I absolute recommend William to anybody looking to get back in shape who does not like their workout sessions to be limited to boring gym only routines. He does in door and outdoor custom workouts that suits your personal needs and goals.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

    Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

    • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
    • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
    • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
    • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
    • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
    • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
    • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What do you need for kickboxing?

What you need to bring to kickboxing depends on where you are working out and what your goals are. For a gym or fitness club’s cardio-based group kickboxing class that does not use punching bags, you generally need only appropriate workout gear and enough water. For kickboxers who are training in a martial arts studio, working one-on-one with a trainer toward a specific goal or sparring with competitors, you will need your own boxing gloves (12- to 16-ounce gloves provide more protection for beginners) and hand wraps (to protect and support your hands under the gloves, as well as keep them dry). If your lessons are in a martial arts studio, you may not be permitted to wear shoes, so bring clean socks if you don’t like to go barefoot. If your training includes sparring, you may be required to wear a mouthguard and/or protective headgear. Whether you’re in a group fitness class or hardcore training session, bring a sweat towel for your comfort and the comfort of people around you.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.
