Everything!!!! Brian is crazy skilled! I had mostly taught myself guitar when I started, and decided it was time to take private lessons - to take it up a notch. Brian came up with a plan - and we jumped on it. From day 1, kept me busy hrs on end - practice is the key. Patient and down to earth - do I recommend Brian? YES!!! Please give him a call - he's worked with my crazy schedule and has been able to accommodate me.

  5. #5 Stephan's Lessons

    (15 reviews)

    Annisa H.

I took guitar lessons with Stephan for about 6 months before I moved away from Los Angeles. I was a beginner who had tried to teach myself the acoustic guitar for a few years prior, but I never progressed very far until I started taking lessons with Stephan. I enjoyed the style of his lessons, in that I could choose what songs I wanted to learn and therefore actually want to practice them on my own, while at the same time learning theory that Stephan would weave into lessons. Stephan was great at coming up with the best approach for me to learn any song of my choice for my skill level, while also allowing me to learn new techniques. I was impressed that he was able to figure out how to play songs from a wide range of genres that I chose, and he was really able to pack a lot of information into a 30 minute lesson. I accomplished everything that I wanted from our lessons these past months (e.g. learning different strum patterns, building up a repertoire of songs to play for friends). Stephan is very energetic, positive, patient, and kind, plus it was always very enjoyable to listen to him play. I highly recommend Stephan for guitar lessons!

I got my boyfriend surprise lessons, he likes playing on the guitar but has had no formal lesson or training ever. After comparing the many potential instructors i went with Doug, and what a great decision. I received nothing but great feedback from boyfriend. Doug really listened to what he was trying to accomplish with the lessons, was very patient and was very thorough. Needless to say, my boyfriend is excited for the next meeting. He is awesome and highly recommended. :)

    Personalized Music Lessons

    (11 reviews)

Hello! I deliver very specialized private music lessons. I am an expert in guiding students directly to their goals. I have taught more than 30,000 hours of one-on-one lessons, and am quite experienced in the process. I've been fortunate enough to be a successful musician and have performed with some of the most talented and respected people in the music industry. With over 30 years of experience, I've developed and streamlined a teaching technique that has helped hundreds of my students enjoy playing music by taking their playing to the next level or starting as a beginner. I have a wide variety of students, including some that have gone on to celebrity status, like Beck and his musical director and bassist, Justin Meldal-Johnson.They covered their basics with me many years ago which gave them a strong foundation on which to build their careers. No two students are alike. Some want to play right away, whereas others like to dig into theory and technique. Whatever you want/need to do, I can accommodate in a fashion that will give you long lasting musical skills, abilities, fun or career advancement if that is your orientation. My specialties are: - Acoustic bass - Elec Bass - Guitar - Piano - Ear training, music theory, improvising and rhythm studies for all instruments including singers and songwriters I play and teach most styles, as the mechanics of music are the same for any style. Really: rock, blues, funk, Indie, jazz, folk, pop, R&B, etc. I specialize in older teens (15 and older) and adults. Beginners are welcome. Weekly lessons are needed when a new student starts in order to stay on track. I've been teaching since 1980, and this is the way to do it. :-) Once a student is rolling along and stable with what we are doing, twice a month can sometimes work. (My 18 current students come weekly) Also--I do not teach children. I can, and I have, but my purposes as an instructor are in the adult category. I love teaching as much as I love playing, and my role seems to be guiding older teens and adults. Looking forward to hearing from you! Marty

  • Guitar Lessons For The Active Lifestyle

    Lessons By Drew

    (10 reviews)

Aside from being one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys you'll ever meet, Drew is an awesome guitar teacher. He's able to assess what level you're at, where you need to work, and what your blocks are very quickly, and to help you out with real examples. He also doesn't get on your case all the time about not practicing -- but seriously, practice! -- and you're just as likely to spend 5 minutes chatting about music and influences as you are running scale lines. He's got worksheets and lesson plans for whatever you need, and leaving a lesson with Drew you really feel prepared to work on what you need to work on in the coming week. Speaking as someone who'd never taken a guitar lesson before, I would definitely recommend Drew to anyone starting out -- or anyone coming from another instrument (I'm a pianist by training).

    Erik Kluiber

    (9 reviews)

Learn how to play the guitar for real! Hello, my name is Erik Kluiber, and I have played guitar for both Metal Blade Records recording artist Gypsyhawk and Earache Records recording artist White Wizzard. I've been teaching for 20 years. I have taught at the School of Rock, Axis Music Academy, Privately, and still teach at Guitar Center Studios in Woodland Hills, Ca from time to time. My structured guitar lessons, specialize in the rock and metal genres. The main goal is to get students to be confident and capable to transfer what they hear in their heads onto the fingerboard. We split an hour lesson into 2 sections. The first half focuses on scales, theory, and technique. While the second half of the lesson is learning a complete song note for note that will push your capabilities. We dissect the note choice, techniques, and song writing concepts within each song. My lessons are very hands on. I believe that being able to play a song from start to finish is key. Unfortunately, most guitar players only learn a few riffs here and there and don't maximize their potential. Simplicity is the key concept to making this happen. Scales and theory should not be a complicated mathematical nightmare. You will be surprised on how easy to it is to apply fundamental theoretical concepts to real guitar playing! I am a graduate of Atlanta Institute of Music class of 1996. Check out my teaching website on youtube for references, videos and examples of me playing different music styles.

Would you embrace playing guitar more if you play songs that you listen to and know? Yes! From beginners to the accomplished, advancing on guitar or bass comes down to one thing: common techniques used in songs. "Once someone learns a half-dozen songs, they have the 'tools' to grasp many more," according to Bob. His style of explanation can connect with students of every age, teach these common techniques, and make satisfying progress fun and easy. Bob is an indie rock musician, lead guitarist in the Celtic rock band Young Dubliners, and is based in Los Angeles, CA. We all have different approaches when it comes to studies. Learning how play an instrument is a fun, but challenging process. I'll create the right environment, I'll provide you with written curriculum or I'll indicate the right book to be purchased, I'll monitor your progress and I'll make sure to get the best out of you. You only have to do one thing for me -- practice, and you'll achieve your goal no matter what that might be. Let my experience do the rest. With more then two decades of professional experience in education, there is nothing that I haven't faced as a teacher. If I'll have your commitment, you'll become what you've dreamed of, and that is a promise.

    Musician2You

Learn the skills that you really need to know, in professional situations. Students have learned more in six months, than they have with years of private lessons - even with very good teachers. The system is based on the simplification of music theory and understanding the guitar as a tool, from which your creative power can find expression. This gives you the ability to understand and engage in virtually any musical “style” or situation. These lessons are excellent for career guitarists, but all levels can benefit from this instruction. Teacher graduated Musician's Institute, Hollywood, and toured and recorded with Atlantic Records. He has taught pre-teens through adults, privately, at Blue Bear School of American Music. He was also a director of Harmony Road. All ages, levels, and musical styles - private, group, and webcam lessons are available!

    LALO

Have you ever wanted to play the guitar? Have you wondered what it would take to get you started? I offer guitar lessons for beginners, and I believe I can get you well on your way to acquiring the guitar skills you wish. I believe that each student is individual and requires specialized teaching. Every person learns at a different pace. The way I teach is personalized and catered to each student, to meet the needs of each individual. I seek to impart a foundation of musical knowledge that will take each student where he or she wants to go. Musically, there is much to learn. The basics of music are: Rhythm, Melody, Harmony. Rhythm is the heartbeat of music. It is founded on the interaction between musical beats and time. Without rhythm, we would not be able to dance to music. Without Rhythm, music would be an unpredictable pattern of sounds. Turn on your favorite song and notice that you can clap your hands to it. Melody is soul of music. It is based on using an instrument to produce notes of varying pitch. To understand melody, the musical scales are employed. A scale is a set pattern of notes. They go from high to low and low to high. When producing a melody, we can use any number of notes, and we chose those notes from the scale. Harmony is the mixing of musical notes to create complex sounds. A harmony between three or more notes is the foundation of a musical chord. The concept of chords is pivotal for songwriting on the guitar. Combining Rhythm, Melody and Harmony, in the proper way, you have the ability to create beautiful music. I am here to teach students the basics, and perhaps more from there. In the 10 years I have been playing the guitar, I have developed a unique and exciting playing style and I will be happy to share my knowledge with you... Best, LALO
