About

I've been wanting to take guitar lessons for over a year after winning this great guild guitar and I haven't found anyone that I could really connect with. Took a few classes but from day one I didn't feel a connection and to me thats the most important thing. Day one with Ricky was great. We discussed the different kinds of music that I wanted to play and he even asked to listen to some of my favorite songs to get an idea of my style and we started immediately. It's only been about two months and I can already play a good handful of songs and my confidence has gone up tremendously. I think anyone who's interested in playing guitar should check Ricky out. He also has deals on his rates if you pay in advance. Dalmasy

We decided to chose Brian for my teenage daughter's beginning guitar lessons due to his willingness to teach her the type of songs that she wanted. Right away he connected with her and her music. He taught her the theory behind playing guitar as well as teaching her the tricks and skills of how to play the guitar. His practices were enjoyable and not just rote. She learned very quickly and therefore stayed excited about learning. Brian was always very complementary and encouraging. Brian also helped us buy useful equipment like a tuner, etc. She always felt safe and comfortable. We would highly recommend Brian as a guitar teacher.

I've been taking guitar lessons with Kimberly since the beginning of 2011. At the time I'd had several years of lessons using a traditional method on acoustic guitar and was looking for a teacher who could help me focus on electric blues rock and move me beyond my intermediate skill level. Kimberly has a real focus on and talent for teaching. My lessons are tailored to meet my interests. A large part of the lesson is devoted to learning her method for blues soloing--at least 5 approaches to improvisation and comping. After several years, I've come to see how these approaches interweave, complement each other and have become an intuitive part of my musical vocabulary. Also, because I expressed an interest, part of the lesson involves sight reading, learning blues and jazz theory, developing rhythmic playing sense, and learning a few favorite solos. Kimberly has an amazing ability to tab out and teach any song you give her. Which leads to the best part--after 6 months I was invited to play with one of her ensemble classes. While I was absolutely petrified with fear at the beginning, this has turned into one of the highlights of my week every week. It is just downright fun! It's a safe and forgiving environment where you can make mistakes and learn, or try things out that might flop, or turn into something cool. Every teacher and guitar magazine article all point to the need to play with other musicians to develop your skills and this is where Kimberly Allison really delivers. I feel that I could now sit in with other musicians and contribute. I give my highest recommendation for taking lessons with Kimberly.

I took guitar lessons from Craig once a week for six months. I liked the way the way he set up his Skype camera so I could watch his fingers as he was showing me different chords and scales. I found Craig to be very knowledgeable about all kinds of music and had great answers to my various questions. His personality is very outgoing and entertaining and that made the lessons fun. I would highly recommend Craig to anyone.

I took guitar lessons with Stephan for about 6 months before I moved away from Los Angeles. I was a beginner who had tried to teach myself the acoustic guitar for a few years prior, but I never progressed very far until I started taking lessons with Stephan. I enjoyed the style of his lessons, in that I could choose what songs I wanted to learn and therefore actually want to practice them on my own, while at the same time learning theory that Stephan would weave into lessons. Stephan was great at coming up with the best approach for me to learn any song of my choice for my skill level, while also allowing me to learn new techniques. I was impressed that he was able to figure out how to play songs from a wide range of genres that I chose, and he was really able to pack a lot of information into a 30 minute lesson. I accomplished everything that I wanted from our lessons these past months (e.g. learning different strum patterns, building up a repertoire of songs to play for friends). Stephan is very energetic, positive, patient, and kind, plus it was always very enjoyable to listen to him play. I highly recommend Stephan for guitar lessons!

I've been involved in music and the stage since childhood but in all that time I've never picked up or studied an instrument. And all the while I wished I'd had. This all changed, as things often do, with the arrival of my children, A couple years ago my wife was struggling to get our kids picked up from school and schlepped to their music classes in a school in Santa Monica. My daughter was taking guitar and my son was taking piano. The stress of running across town against the clock was too much. So we took it upon ourselves to find a teacher who could make house calls. Through a connection we found Lloyd. He was available and could teach all sorts of lessons. Guitar, piano, and bass guitar. Lloyd is a teacher and composer and actually he is quite a good businessman. It is his policy to offer two free lessons to an adult in the house in which he is giving the child's lessons. He had me hooked after the first lesson. He immediately had me playing a few chords and then strewn them together and I was playing Jimi Hendrix' Hey Joe! Another thing I like about Lloyd is that he will integrate the student's interests into the lessons so if you have some songs you want to play he will be able to teach them to you. We live in Santa Monica but he also has students in Pacific Palisades, West LA, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. Lloyd has an easy way about him and has been very trustworthy. I recommend him for children as well as adult lessons.

I've struggled for years to improve my understanding of music theory and guitar playing skills. With Rick's help, I've been able to get past many of my prior stumbling blocks and am on my way to playing at a significantly higher level. Whether you are learning as a hobby or a professional, Rick is great at removing the limitations we all encounter and getting you to think and play at a level beyond what you thought was possible. Rick is a master in getting back to basics and helping guide his students to become true musicians. I would recommend Rick to anyone who has a true passion for music and who is looking to improve their musical talents.

About

Vince has been teaching guitar lessons to my 7 year old daughter for the past 2 months. He is patient, encouraging, and teaches with a good balance of challenge and support. Vince is always prepared and uses a book to supplement his teaching. He writes notes to illustrate his lessons which helps my daughter practice at home. Vince is thoughtful and encourages my daughter to collaborate during lessons and also tries to incorporate music that she enjoys. He plans two recitals per year (summer and winter) for his students who include children and adults. My daughter participated in the June recital after only one month of lessons! Vince taught her to play the Happy Birthday song as a surprise for my husband whose birthday was the day of the recital. The program was held at a Pasadena park and Vince centered the event around the student performances and did not promote himself or his program as many music teachers tend to do. Vince is humble, gentle, and encouraging. He focuses on teaching his students to enjoy playing the guitar and to feel confident about expressing their music. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in guitar lessons. He visits our home weekly for private lessons. His rates are fair and he is flexible should we ever need to cancel/reschedule a class.

I only had one lesson with George & if not for the distance from my home I'd continue taking lessons from him. My son & I both had a lesson & he was great. Great teaching method & makes full use of technology to aid in his teaching. Any serious students would do themselves a favor by hooking up with George to help them take their playing further.

I took lessons with music production lessons withJohn and he made me feel very comfortable. He knows how to teach and is great for people who are serious. Only downside was we were using a software I never used so it was hard to transition.

He has a great way of teaching you what you need to know about the guitar. He also keeps it fun and interesting and throws in guitar theory but not to much to where it gives you a head ache, just enough to blow your mind!

I started lessons with Sam about 2 weeks ago and even after the first lesson I noticed a HUGE difference in my playing. I was improving at a way quicker rate than on my own. He watched me play and could instantly see what I needed to work on. Its been invaluable to have someone as knowledgable and passionate as him helping me. He's willing to take extra time to make sure you're getting it.

I really enjoy my guitar lessons. It is fun, I could already play a song after one lesson and I can always make suggestions what I want to play. He also teaches some basic music knowledge, but only if it's useful, so the lessons are never boring. I feel like I learn a lot every lesson while it is a relaxed atmosphere! :)

Nipun is a very professional and inspiring teacher! Despite his high level of musicianship he would always meet me at my level and he wouldn't end the class until he found a way to make me understand what I wanted to learn even if it meant he would go over time. He always uses different approaches to explain until message received in my brain. He understood me and how to make me understand things. He is also very inspiring and would always play himself as examples of what we were working on and it always gave me so much inspiration to work with. I strongly recommend Nipun to anyone wanting to learn or advance in the field of guitar. Miriam

Jaime is my guitar teacher now and she's awesome! I have her a little background and when she showed up, she'd actually read my profile and came ready with a plan for how I should learn. I gave her some songs I wanted to learn, but the one she gave me ended up being my favorite to play. 5 stars!

Eric was great. Not an hour after I Thumbtacked with a last minute audition learning situation, he contacted me and we were able to schedule an appointment that afternoon. I sent him sheet music digitally, and had it printed, analyzed and ready to teach when I arrived at his studio. He was great on guitar, in addition to being an articulate and patient instructor. He made sure I was comfortable reaching out to him down the line with questions, and followed up a few days later to see how the learning went. Well worth the cost, highly recommended. Thanks, Eric!

I spoke with Aviv and we had a lesson in the evening- he was very flexible on times which was a big help. The lesson was fun but challenging- I had some experience but did not remember most of what I learned, only a few songs. After speaking with Aviv he assessed my level and immediately found several tasks like bar chords and scales to work on including a few songs for fun ;) The lesson was fun and challenging and he gave me a lot to work on! He was a great instructor, we already scheduled another lesson and Im sure I can improve greatly with his lessons. Highly recommended!!!
