What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

My personal training experience with Adrian(PT Zone Personal Training)has been so amazing!! I wish that I could rate him as 10 stars!! I started in June of 2015 & my last session is next week(6 months of training) & I can't say enough about how satisfied I'm with working with him. From day one, he has been very professional, always on time for every session, came prepared for all workouts with his own fitness equipment, & always held me accountable!! Not only is he a fitness trainer but is certified in detoxification which is a major plus!! Reggie is a great, personable and professional personal trainer. He is encouraging and easily able to adjust the workout depending on my energy level on the day. After training with Larry for almost 4 months, I can attest to Larry's professional knowledge, enthusiasm, and result-driven attitude. My goal is to tone, and get fitter. To that end, Larry created a custom whole body workout for me. He guides me in working all parts of my body, arms, chest, legs, and even cardio. He pays attention to my forms closely, making sure I get the most out of my workout, and also not get hurt. I'll definitely be training with Larry for the foreseeable future! If you are on the fence about having a personal trainer to help you achieve your fitness goal, you owe it to yourself to at least have a trial session with Larry!

Tabari is an excellent trainer and I would highly recommend him to anyone! I’m a pretty picky person and decided to work with him based off his reviews and they do NOT lie. I always look forward to our sessions because I know I’ll be challenged and I’m working with someone who is as invested in my fitness journey as I am. It’s clear that he cares about his clients by his willingness to go above and beyond through his clear communication, professionalism, and personalized approach. I’ve worked with trainers that use cookie cutter programs and things I can just find online on my own but that is not Tabari. From meal plans to workouts I feel like they are made just for me and my personal fitness goals. I love that he approaches fitness/health as a lifestyle and not something you just do to look good in vacation pictures. You’ll get way more than you pay for when you work with him!

David is an outstanding personal trainer. I did a tremendous amount of research and "interviews" with other potential trainers before deciding to team up with David. The first thing that I liked above his offering was the private studio. I had not worked out in a LONG time and I was self-conscious about working out in front of other people. Secondly, every other trainer I talked to tried to sell me supplements on the first phone call. This is a big turn off. Lastly, I could tell David was an intelligent guy and was not your run of the mill trainer. My experience over the last 4 months has reinforced my initial instinct. David is an articulate, intelligent and thoughtful guy which makes for an incredible training experience. He genially listens to your goals and designs the program for you. You will not do the same thing the person before or after you did-- the program is specific to your goals. He also pushes you without seeming like a drill sergeant. Within three months my body fat % went from 25+% to less than 12%. I feel better than I ever have and for the first time in my life I am hooked on exercise and improving my overall fitness. I initially committed to 3 months of intense training and was going to try and transition to working out on my own after that time period. David was in full support of this plan and at 3 months I was in a position where I could have successfully started training on my own. However, I genially enjoy working out with David so much that I have decided to continue on 3x a week with him. I am looking forward to pushing my fitness to the next level and would highly recommend David. If you are thinking about working out with a trainer you owe it to yourself to talk to David.

I never met this trainer but he was extremely cocky to have never met me. When I told him thank you but I decided to go another route — he decided to inform me that “...you could have gotten quicker results and a better work out with me.” It made me feel better about my decision not to work with him because who would want to work with someone that’s a sore loser? It had absolutely nothing personal to do with him. However, his first message to me, which he initiated, stated that “Nobody on this site has more experience than I do...” I did find that a little off putting as well. I’m all for self confidence but it’s the energy you put out that attracts the energy you desire. I’m a very positive, loving person and after those few messages I don’t think we would be a go fit anyway.

At the beginning of 2016, I weighed 350lbs; the heaviest I've been in my 33yrs of living. I made up in my that I wanted to loose weight, but I wasn't motivated. From Jan 2016 to the time I started working with Harris Fitness (which was April), I only lost 9lbs. I moved my weight to 341lbs. Once I consistantly started working with Harris (i.e. - exercising, dieting, and changing my lifestyle behaviors under Harris guidance & expertise), over the course of 60 days I dropped from 341 to 316lbs. Harris is EXCELLENT & PROFESSIONAL!!! He defintely knows his stuff. In a time where everyone claims to be a "personal trainer," Harris sets himself apart by combining his knowledge, education, and experience in HEALTH by creating a plan & regiment that customized to you. Most importantly, he CARES and is vested in your SUCCESS. He doesn't just tell you what do, but he gets down in the trenches with you & pushes you; even when you don't feel like it. Even when I can't work out regularly because I travel significatly for work, he always checks in on me to ensure I remain focused. Once my travel duties have completed with my job in November, I'm back at it to once & for all defeat my outter fatman. I know with his guidance & support, I can & will do it. I appreciate Harris & will recommend him to any & everyone.
