Jimmy w/ JM Home Services LLC was quick to respond and provided standard quote for the work specified in his response to my request. When he arrived he was ready with his mask and even reminded me to put one on, lol. I had a running toilet and clogged bathroom sink. He replaced the valve and flapper and now my toilet is no longer running and the flush pressure is even stronger. The sink presented a challenge. Once he removed the clog, he noticed that my sink was leaking due to the incorrect installation of the faucet. This part of the job took him longer to correct because neither of us were prepared but because of how thorough he was he would not leave until the job was done. He had to add two mechanism which were an additional $32 but it was necessary. What I can say he did not charge me additional for labor. I am pleased with how professional he is, he arrived with a pickup with his company name on the side and all the tools and supplies in case of unexpected issues. I plan to keep him in my back pocket for more home services.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a plumber during the COVID-19 pandemic?

If possible, it’s best to set up a virtual consultation or phone call with a plumber near during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can send a message to a professional plumber near you and ask if they are available to video chat or have a phone call. Use that time to discuss the work that needs to be done. Make sure to ask any questions you have about the project. And lastly, ask the plumber how they handle payments and whether they have any specific safety precautions in place to comply with social distancing.

How can I find out if a plumber is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

Generally, plumbers are often considered essential service providers. Essential service providers vary from state to state and city to city, however. For the most accurate information, check your official state or city government website to see whether a plumber is considered an essential service in your area.

Read CISA’s publication on identifying critical workers to find out more information on a national level. Some, but not all, jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Are there ways to be safe if I hire a plumber when social distancing?

Contact plumbers near you beforehand to see if they can complete the project without entering your home — for example, by entering the garage to fix a broken water heater. If the plumber needs to enter your house to do the job, you should proceed only if both parties feel comfortable with the project. Consider taking extra steps such as waving instead of shaking hands, staying 6 feet apart, using digital payments and sanitizing common areas.

Can I use digital payments to pay for plumbing services?

Some plumbers accept digital payments -- Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, etc. -- for their services. Before you hire a plumber, ask them if they accept your preferred online payment. Many also feature digital payment options on their profiles. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, digital payments are typically considered safer than cash and credit cards.

Does a plumber need to enter my home?

A plumber will need to enter your home to fix plumbing issues like dripping faucets, clogged sinks or toilets and leaky pipes. They might not need to come into your home if the faulty appliance is located outdoors or in the garage. Before you begin the project, contact plumbers near you to find out they will need to enter your home.

Do plumbers offer remote or virtual services?

If you see a profile that states the plumber is offering remote services, contact the plumber before hiring them to see what those services include. Although plumbing is a job that has to be done in-person, you can ask them if they offer virtual consultations or an online walk-through.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

What happens when a water pipe bursts?

When a pipe bursts, the water can cause indoor flooding and damage your home. If the pipe is in an accessible location, you will likely notice puddles of water right away. However, if the pipe is underground or behind a wall, it may cause reduced water pressure, a sulfur smell or discolored water. All of this can cause significant (and expensive) damage, which is why you should always contact a plumber near you if you suspect your pipes are leaking.

What do you do if you have a burst pipe?

First, switch off the water supply to reduce the water damage. You should also turn off the electricity for the part of your home that has sustained the leak, as it can be extremely dangerous if the water comes into contact with an electrical socket. Next, drain the remaining water from your faucets so it doesn’t freeze inside the pipes.

Once you’ve done all of this, search for qualified plumbers in your area and ask them to provide you with a quote.

Can a leaking pipe burst?

Yes. A leak in your pipe can build up pressure and wear through the material. Left unchecked, this pressure can cause the pipe to burst. This is why it’s so important to fix your pipes and contact a plumber as soon as you notice a leak — no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.

Smaller leaks are easier and inexpensive to fix, saving you time and money in the long run. In addition, many insurance policies will not cover water damage for pipes that burst due to gradual leaks.

I was not informed of a 24hr warranty on plumbing from this company. They came out to one of my apartment buildings to unclog a/c unit and washer drain. He couldn’t solve the a/c leak but said the washer drain was unclogged. I still paid them full price for coming out. My Tenant tried to use it on Thursday and it’s still backing up. I called to ask can they come back out to fix it correctly and was told I have to pay again because it’s 48hrs and they only warrant for 24hrs. I have been a landlord sense 2001 with over 40 units. I have never had a plumbing experience this bad. $156.00 for a incomplete job. I have never felt so swindled by a licensed plumbing company and over 18yrs in the housing business. Beware when choosing this company, you could be there next victim.

Hired Powers Plumbing to address several plumbing problems with a new location. The plumber came out and seemed knowledgeable but was very unreliable. Caused my opening to slip almost 3 weeks because i could not count on him to actually show up. Had to ultimately hire a different plumber. Charged me full price to items even though he didn't complete them 100%. Had to spend an additional 400-500 dollars redoing several items that he installed incorrectly. Company seems nice enough but I will never use them again.

Great job excellent service and best price is what you get when working with Quality 4 less. After the freeze snap in New Orleans the other guys wait time was 4 days. He came out the next day. Very thorough. I'm happy to reccomend this company for your plumbing needs.

He said he would be here at 4 pm. He was here at 4 pm. He completed the project in less than an hour and definitely, definitely that is, did not charge an arm and a leg. Actually, I was surprised at the reasonableness of the charge. I would hire, and will hire GLM for all of my plumbing projects. P.S. I am not his mother!

I had a leak under my raised house under my kitchen sink. Juan worked with my schedule and came the same day. It is fixed with no problems. He also took a look at my dishwasher for me. Over all, great experience and highly recommend him. I will be calling him back if I ever have any other plumbing issues.

Plumbing, Carpentry, Flooring were the jobs that Gianni performed for us. Gianni and company did a fine job of ensuring that our property is brought up to code. Additionally, Gianni was very generous in his suggestions on what work and improvements needed and how to be proactive in avoiding future issues with water leaks, wood corrosion, etc. It was truly money well spent in dealing with Quality 4 Less. We will be calling their company for future work. Erica T

Working with Gianni was a great experience. We had just moved in the house and had little knowledge of its issues and plumbing. He was able to figure out the issues and fix them right away. His flexibility and understanding of my schedule was great. He made himself available when fit my schedule. He was very reasonable on the time and price and we will absolutely be calling him directly in the future for any further needs we have. Could not ask for a better experience

Awesome awesome business man and plumber! He came out gave me a estimate on the time it would take to do the job, and he was right on time with everything. He fixed 8 leaks under my home in under 4 hours and now my home has running water again. I will definitely stay in business with his company and refer him to family if any plumbing issues arise! The value, quality, and punctuality was amazing. You won’t be disappointed if you choose Quality 4 Less services.

I hired Robert to replace all the plumbing in our new home. Once he started the job (and started cutting away and drilling through studs) he informed me that he was not a master plumber and that he would get into a lot of trouble and lose his license if he was found out. He decided not to go ahead with our job leaving us looking for a plumber and more importantly, taking our deposit. We signed a contract stating that he would return all the money (except for a few hundred dollars for some work that he did). He returned the majority of the money, however he still owes us $200. I have called and emailed many times about the final payment. This all happened in November, I have been emailing him for SIX MONTHS. Every time, he promises to send me payment at the end of the week. I didn't want to leave bad reviews and damage his business, however after six month, I have no choice.

This man is dishonest, unreliable, untrustworthy, incompetent! A fraud! I hired him to repair what another Thumbtack plumber did not complete. He told me that he will complete the job for $546.98 in one day. However, after 8 days he still did not complete the job; be aware this is only a 500 sqft house. The work he does is botched, he ran a pipe with no shut off valve for the washer and dryer. I had to ask him how will I stop the water if I need too? He says, “oh my bad, I forgot about that, I will redo that” In the meantime its costing me endless time that my potential tenant is waiting patiently to move in to the property. I also discovered after hiring him and seeing his work performance, that he’s not licensed in New Orleans and non-insured as he claims to be. For my job he knows I am pressed for time but, yet he takes his time; he wastes so much time talking constantly about his personal life, a few times he started at 10 am, took a lunch at noon, needed to run and get parts and didn’t get back until 3pm; he then leaves for the day at 5pm. In the meantime, he was taking other jobs, even after I told him how important this was because I have a tenant waiting to move in. The last straw of this miserable encounter was today. He said everything was complete and it should be fine. I went under the house to check his work, and I found a few leaks. I told him about it, then he said that it wasn’t from him; although in the beginning we agreed that he would complete the entire job. The leak was never there in the first place, however he tried to create more money for himself by fabricating saying he can fix it for an additional $75/hour. I decided to pay him and get him out of my hair. Before I give him his check he asked me to sign an invoice of completion. The job was not completed, and he said he will come tomorrow to finish. I said I am not going to sign because the job is not finished. He then became hostile, threatened me by saying “yes, you will sign this document”. He was cursing at me and got me to the point of almost calling the police. I was forced to sign the document to avoid getting into a fist fight in the middle of the street. This is not someone’s hands you want to put your precious home or investment property’s plumbing into, trust me. This is the worst experience! Please note that when they say “You get what you pay for” it’s true! It’s best to pay for a local reputable/longstanding company rather than going to someone like this.
