Quick Floors was amazing! I wanted a fast and easy way to re-do the flooring of my house (kitchen and entry way needed to be redone). They were so responsive and attentive, and very clear about what needed to be done and what the timelines were. I had such a positive experience. I had some anxieties about finding the right people to redo my floors, but Quick Floors did such a stellar job with responsiveness, service, and workmanship that there was nothing really to worry about! It all turned out amazing. The owner of this company, Sarvar, was super nice and their whole company was great about explaining everything to me. It can be hard to find attentive people, and this level of service blew me away. I felt a peace of mind just knowing what needed to be done. A+ service!See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a tiler during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To set up an appointment or consultation with a tiler during the COVID-19 pandemic, start by conducting an online search for tilers in your area. Ask if the tiler can conduct a consultation through a video call instead of a traditional site visit to limit exposure. It’s also wise to confer about the current state of the pandemic and ensure that it’s safe to complete the project now. If not, discuss postponing for another time.

How can I find out if a tiler is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

To identify essential service providers during the pandemic, visit your city or state’s government website to find a list of recommendations.

A list of national recommendations can be found at CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 webpage. This service lists 16 different types of essential infrastructure sectors that are approved to continue operation during the pandemic. But note not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Does a tiler need to enter my home?

If the tiling job is located in your house, the tiler will need access to your home. The exception to this would be if the job was taking place in an outdoor area like a backyard.

If a tiler does need to enter your home, take strong precautions. Sanitize all surfaces, avoid being in the same room and conduct payment using digital platforms. Discuss a safety strategy with tilers in your area beforehand.

Can I use digital payments to pay for tile installation, replacement or repairs?

Digital payment platforms are popular in a wide range of service industries, and many tile installment, replacement and repair professionals now accept them. Common platforms include PayPal, Zelle, Google Pay, Venmo, Square Cash and more.

Start with an online search for tile companies near you. Ask them if they accept digital payments and which types you can use. Then, put a strategy together to follow social distancing guidelines.

Do tilers offer remote or virtual services?

Because tiling is a manual, in-person job, it is not typically considered a remote project. But if you come across a profile that states the tile company is offering remote services, ask them what those services include.

What do you need to lay tile?

If you’re laying a new tile floor, you’ll likely need an assortment of tools and supplies, including (but not limited to):

  • Tile
  • Tile adhesive
  • Tile trim
  • Tile spacers
  • Underlayment
  • Sealer
  • Caulk
  • Level
  • Goggles
  • Gloves
  • Trowel
  • Carpenter’s square
  • Grout
  • Sponge
  • Tape measure
  • Etc.

If you don’t have all of the tools, equipment and skills necessary to lay tile in your home, consider hiring one of the best tile contractors in your area.

How long does it take to install backsplash?

The time it takes to install backsplash depends on the size of the area and the type of materials you’re using. But generally, it’ll take a few days to finish the project. Porcelain or ceramic tile may take less time than that, while very small glass tiles or complicated designs are likely to add time.

Chat with the best tile specialists to find out how long it will take to install a backsplash in your home.

Does tile flooring increase home value?

Having a tile floor may increase your home’s value, but it might depend on the type of tile you install and the trends in the real estate market.

Chat with your realtor or a real estate expert to figure out what types of home repairs and remodeling projects you should tackle before you put your home on the market. It might make sense to add new tiles when renovating your kitchen or bathroom, for example.

If you decide to include new tiling in your home remodeling project, contact the best tile installation pros near you to get free estimates.

Which is better: porcelain or ceramic tile?

Porcelain tiles are more durable and have a longer lifespan than ceramic tile. If you're installing flooring in an area with high traffic or lots of heavy furniture, porcelain tiles will look better for longer. They’re also very easy to clean and maintain. Porcelain is also very water-resistant and can hold up in places like bathrooms and rooms with jacuzzis, hot tubs, or swimming pools.

But if the cost is your top priority, ceramic tiles are often more affordable. Ceramic tile prices start as low as $0.45 or $0.50 per square foot, and porcelain tile starts at $3 per square foot.

Tyler did a fairly decent job despite the fact that nothing in our old home is straight or completely flat. His tiles were straight and of a consistent width apart. Nearly all tiles save one were installed perfectly flat. My only criticism of his work are his choices to: 1. install a single subway tile that was clearly cut far too short instead of just cutting another tile for the space. Thankfully, that tile was located immediately under the hood vent and it isn't all that visible after caulking; and 2. install a floor tile under a door casing that should have been cut since the long casing forced the tile to sit much lower than the adjacent tile under the doorway. The end result is a very unsightly height difference between two tiles in a high traffic, high visibility doorway; and 3. start the first tiles along the back wall too large so that the first tiles spilling into our entryway were too small (his words). There were two other issues with the install but they were entirely my fault for not explaining my expectations and I should be able to work around them.

Was looking for someone to fix the shower floor slope because the water never drained correctly. When Gerrit came out from McCarty Tile & Stone, I asked him if he could just tile over the existing tile to fix the slope. He said it would not be an issue. He explained what would need to be done, asked about tile and quoted a fair price. There was no pressure from him to do any unnecessarily work. It was a two day project and he started that day. After each day he cleaned up and no mess was left behind. I believe he enjoys what he does and it shows in his work. I now have a tile guy.

Working with Tec Tile was our best thumbtack experience. They were very communicative with fast responses. I had some inspiration images of what I was trying to achieve and they worked with me to get exactly what I wanted. They created a backsplash that looks like a marble slab out of 18x18 tiles that I had purchased by making their install look seamless as possible. I’m keeping g their info on file for friend and family who need tile work in the future!

communicated very well, did a great installation job, and coordinated everything with the plumber. we had cracked, ugly tiles in our bathroom and they demoed down to the joists due to a leak/mold and provided fair prices for the extra work and even installed new floor trim to fit the new height of the tile.

Aaron did an AMAZING job. We had small arabesque tile for our backsplash that I couldn’t imagine cutting, and he cut and laid it perfectly. We originally had agreed that Aaron would do our tile floor the standard way with backer board, but when we pulled the tile up and he saw that our floor was uneven, he helped explain how another approach would be best. He also ran into some issues with the tile we selected (had nothing to do with him) and the options for patterns it allowed, and managed to find a solution that we were happy with. Aaron is very talented and was great to communicate with and have explain the entire process to us. He was amazing and we would highly recommend him!

Michael did our bathroom tile remodel and we are very satisfied with his work. He provides excellent value by delivering high quality work at a fair price. He took his time and made sure everything was done perfectly, took no shortcuts, was courteous and professional at all times, and documented all of his material receipts. He passed along his discounts to local tile shops so the tile and materials we paid for were all discounted and at the cost he pays. I highly recommend Michael to everyone and will use him again for any of our future remodel needs.

After meeting Truly German Stone and Tile, we decided that it was a good fit to have Mike work at our home in more than one area. He completed a bathroom and an entry way for us in a timely manner. This job took under one week and was professionally done. He was good at checking in with me to give me options about layout and design before he installed. These were things I didnt really consider before. We are very happy with the work and hoping to have Truly German come out and do the Kitchen in the spring. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for any type of tile work.
