I have been taking jazz guitar lessons from Dom for almost a year and a half now. His particular approach to teaching music is very refreshing from all others I've encountered before. Dom has a certain way of finding a student's particular sound on their instrument and personalizing each lesson to better bring out this sound. My experience so far has been completely positive and I look forward to more lessons.

Phenomenal musician, great teacher, cool cat - I rate David First INFINITY STARS. I've studied music here and there, but it wasn't until I started taking bass lessons with David a few years ago that it all came together for me. He explains music theory in a way I can understand and translate to actual practice that is not a chore, it is fun and addictive! Besides developing technical skill, Dave also helped me grow as a musician by getting over feeling awkward jamming with other people. I eventually felt comfortable enough to audition for bands and ended up in a fun one, playing out in the city even! David was there for my first gig, too. My husband was so impressed with my progress, he started guitar lessons last year and has come so far, it is amazing. We feel like Grasshoppers to David's Master Po. He is the best, ok I'll stop now, you get it.

I'm a long time student of Chris's and have taken guitar lessons with him both in person at Express Music and then continuing on with Skype lessons once he moved out of Florida. I was also involved in several Rock Band programs which Chris created, he was the instructor and our band's drummer. He is really good at this stuff. Chris's guitar skills and level of music theory knowledge are top notch, I have never been able to stump him with any songs or questions I’ve brought in. He is comfortable teaching all styles of guitar and its various techniques. Chris is also very patient and easy to get along with, a very cool guy. Highly recommended!

Josh does an amazing job teaching my 8 year old son who started with piano lessons and recently added the electric bass. Josh's method of teaching encourages the kids to pick out fun, often current, songs and gradually build upon the basics. Because he likes the music, my son has made so much progress - he's excited to go to lessons and loves practicing at home (a big change from his previous lessons). We couldn't ask for a better experience.

I've been taking lessons from Assaf for almost a year now, and my guitar playing and knowledge of music theory have both developed much faster than I had envisioned they would. Assaf brings much more to the table than just being a well-knowledged jazz guitar virtuoso, in that he is very patient, is able to explain complex ideas well, and, most importantly, is able to make lessons and practice both highly productive and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Alan is so patient and encouraging. He is able to take a casual fun approach to simply learning songs that you've picked out or will give other songs and exercises that support the understanding of guitar technique and theory. Even when working through simple chord changes, he jams along side so it doesn't sound so elementary and you feel like you're already making good guitar music. It makes the process very fun!

I have been extremely fortunate to have found Alvaro as a guitar/music instructor. Within 2 minutes of meeting him you can see the passion for life and music flowing out of him. He has a natural gift of meeting you wherever you are on the path of your musical journey, and inspiring you to move forward. For years I have been stuck in the same old rut practicing the same old things, getting better, but it seemed so slowly. Within 3 lessons my playing, and understanding of music grew faster than 6 months of practicing on my own. Alvaro molds your lesson around who you are. He has a way of coaxing emotional content out of your playing. If you are looking for a guitar/music instructor look no further. Teachers of this caliber, talent, and demeanor are few and far between.

I have been taking banjo lessons from Robin for the past year and she is an outstanding instructor. About

I have taught private and group guitar lessons to middle, high school and college students in NYC at various after school programs for private schools, as well as CEMO (Centro Educacao Musical de Olinda) (Musical Education Center of Olinda), a school in Olinda, Brazil, where I taught jazz improvisation to middle and high school students. I have taught Jazz, Blues, folk, rock, classical, and Brazilian music i.e. Bossa Nova and Samba to students age 5-adults in their 70's for over 13 years. In the lesson, we will learn your favorite songs, chord playing, how to sing and play (if you like to sing :) ). various rhythms and strumming techniques for rock pop jazz or R&B songs. For jazz players/improvisers We can explore different uses of scales and lines, ear-training and transcribing solos of favorite artists, to acquire the skills to develop good ears to speak the language more fluently on the guitar. I have a series of different exercises for picking and fretboard technique for electric guitar be it for Jazz, pop, rock, or R&B, I have various finger-style picking techniques for Brazilian, classical and folk styles. I like to approach teaching my students on an individual needs basis. As all students have different strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes. The ultimate goal for me is in seeing my students feel good about themselves for having accomplished their greatest potential so that they can continue on to pursue music as a career or purely as a passion I teach primarily out of my private home studio in the West Village and may travel to students homes in Manhattan or Brooklyn, depending on location. Rates are affordable and can be negotiated over the phone or by email

About

I have been taking guitar lessons from Tom for approximately 1-1/2 years. I have to say that I’m totally amazed at the speed in which I have learned the basics of guitar playing, thanks to Tom’s excellent teaching, caring and encouragement . When I began on this improbable journey, I knew zero about the guitar itself and less than zero about playing the guitar. All I knew was that I always wanted to learn to play and that one didn’t need to read music in order to do so. Tom is very patient which is vital for a beginner.

I have been teaching guitar, saxophone, clarinet, and flute for over ten years. I also have experience teaching music composition, theory, aural skills, and many other things. As a teacher, my philosophy is to cater the lesson toward the students interests while focusing on the fundamental skills of the instrument they are learning. I try to inspire my students by finding interesting material that they will want to go home and practice. Beyond anything else, music should be a fun experience! I received a Bachelor of Music in Classical Saxophone Performance with a minor in Jazz Studies from Truman State University located in Kirksville, Missouri. After graduating, I moved to New York City where I received a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from New York University. "Drew is an easy-going guy who relates well to his students. So when you listen to a pop song or rock song you can pick up on where the melody or rhythm is trying to lead you as a listener. I enjoy enabling my students to be able to play the songs they enjoy hearing on the radio, especially helping them to impress their friends and family.
