What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

Short review, 10/10 awesome guy, great conversations, and cares about you as a person. Long review: I was new and nervous into looking for a personal trainer, I spent some time around Austin and checked out multiple trainers. Most of them were hard to connect with or only cared about me as a number. Brandon was the first trainer that I not only connected with, but enjoyed being around. He is very insightful, incredibly knowledgeable in his field, and wants to see you grow as a person while you are improving physically. He has a very upbeat and positive attitude, which makes the sessions that much more enjoyable. He also offers online workouts for those who are worried about Covid and a training app for those who don't need to be with a physical trainer, but need a strong and focused work out routine. Brandon cares about your success in and out of the training. He will provide insight on food, lifestyle, and mental health. I would consider him to be more than a personal trainer, he is a life coach. He is incredibly patient and kind, and I wouldn't work with any other trainer after having been with him. Thanks for reading! TLDR: If you're looking for a personal trainer in Austin, start with Brandon.

This isn't your ordinary, run of the mill trainers--After our initial work out, Pree understood what I was looking for and connected me with a female trainer who's timings fit in around my schedule. Stephanie is amazing. She's very knowledgeable, has a wonderful personality, and will push you beyond your mental and physical limits. I recommend Nirvana GYM tremendously if you want to tone up, get back into shape or just need a new/different work out regimen.

My boyfriend and I recently began to have Pree training us. We both have never been so happy. Pree is very understanding of our bodies limitations and offers alternative workouts to keep us going. We both have seen great results in stamina and changes to our bodies physical appearance. We could not recommend Pree and Nirvana Gym enough.

I've been working with Curtis for nearly 2 years and he's awesome. After back surgery I was looking for a trainer that understood what I needed physically. He's transformed me and I couldn't be happier with my results. He pushes me each session and he lets me shout at him! Lol Every workout is varied and I never get bored of the same old thing. Curtis truly loves what he does and it shows in his passion to help people.

Neha is an excellent highly-motivating trainer. She's tough but nurturing. She understands fitness and was able to create a custom program that worked within my physical limitations but also met my goals At first I was uncertain about how effective a workout I would be able to achieve in my small living room, but Neha found a way to provide a powerful workout that gave me noticeable results within two weeks. She helped get me back in shape and have fun in the process!

He is prompt, encouraging and still holds me accountable. He works with broad range of skill levels and age ranges. He has been a trainer for serious athletes at gyms so I was worried that I was not strong enough or too old. He has been super supportive. I’m in my 60s I hope this works for a long time. I can already do things I haven’t been able to do for a year. If you are looking for coaching after physical therapy or just after being inactive he is the best.

Upon meeting Steven and learning about his background in fitness and his years of experience as a personal trainer, I was really excited to work with him. He listened to my own story, assessed my current physical state and offered realistic goals and a plan to accomplish them. Steven is very down to earth, personable, and clearly has a high appreciation for the trust that his clients have in him when it comes to their health and wellness. The workouts were extremely thoughtful and challenging but doable within my own capabilities, yet he always pushed me to reach for a little bit more. It’s refreshing to be able to rely on someone as professional as him to learn me and design a plan that can evolve with my progress. It’s exactly what I needed and I’m excited to keep working with him to see what I’m capable of!

We needed a flexible and creative trainer to help us work out at home after our 6 month old son went to bed. Keep in mind, we only have a couple of yoga mats, a few sets of dumbbells, and an overly friendly dog. No problem at all for Christopher- he came up with hard hour-long workouts for us to do in our living room, and made sure to walk us through exercise series we could use for workouts throughout the week. He even sent accountability texts to make sure we were doing the workouts between sessions and to check-in on how we were feeling. The workouts were hard, but also super fun- Christopher is very clearly knowledgeable about fitness and physical training, and he also has a great sense of humor. He was flexible with finding times for sessions that worked around our work and baby schedules. And he didn't mind the playful dog jumping across the room while he worked us out. Christopher is fairly new to Austin, which I consider to be a temporary advantage- I'd bet he'll have a very full clientele list in no time. Do yourself a favor and book him now while he still has availability!

Great if you want to see results fast and are in general good health physically. But I fault myself for following his direction when he and I both knew I had a bad back. With in a few weeks of training, my back was out and after a year of PT to recover I ultimately had surgery to remove a disc that was bulging. Jumping on and off the big wooden box in his garage and kettle bells was a really bad idea. I ended up gaining a lot more weight over that year and eventually found a trainer at a gym who knew a lot about back injury. Her direction was very mild and I felt like I would never see results. But seeing her got me in the Gym 3x per week and while I may not have seen results, people started commenting on how much better my butt, thighs, stomach, etc. all looked. She always did moves with me that protected my back, neck, bad left knee, etc. If you are already a strong athlete with no injury and just want to kick it up a notch, Richard is your person. If you are the average lay person with bad back wanting to trim down for the first time and get healthy, I have another recommendation for you.
