I am currently taking my first math college course online and was struggling to understand many of the concepts on my own. I began receiving regular tutoring from Armin and noticed a far better understanding of each and every concept. Armin was always willing to help at whatever pace I needed to work at. I am the type of student who needs a very clear and direct path in math that makes sense to me, and Armin was always able to help me to understand each and every concept. I feel that I have not only received a far better understanding of areas of weakness in my math, but I have found that my confidence in math has tremendously increased and strengthened. The areas of math that I found intimidating and impossible are now areas of math in which I not only understand, but areas that I can succeed in thanks to the help, patience, and knowledge of Armin. There is no area of math that Armin cannot assist with! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Armin! Thank you Armin!

Mr. Martinsen has been my son's math (Algebra 2, Pre-Cal, AP Cal and SAT Math) tutor for many years. As an educator myself, I recognize how important a solid math foundation is to a student, no matter what subject they major in college. Hollis was recommended to us by a friend. Hollis has a very flexible schedule and will work with you until you understand the material. Here are just a few reasons why he may be a good fit for you: 1) Hollis meets his students at their level. He doesn't waste your time reviewing concepts that you already understand. He figures out quickly what you already know, and goes from there. 2) Hollis pushes his students to the next level. My son has always been strong in math, but needed clarity on several topics. He will push to deeply understand the topic. He has taken my son to the top of his class. 3) Excellent SAT Math tutor. The Math section of the SAT is not only a test of your understanding of math concepts, but also a test of your ability to perform on a timed, standardized test. For my son, he was able to provide him with test taking strategies that enabled him to get a 740/800 (99th percentile) in the spring of 2017.

I’ve taken my SATs a couple of times and although I am not a bad student, I just felt that I could have done better, I knew it inside, but just could not find where it was. I got the Getting Into The Ivys tutoring program and worked with a Chelsea tutor. What I really like about my tutor is that she’s a qualified teacher and is professional and knows how to actually teach concepts properly. I really did not want to take any chances. Going to university is very important to me and my family. Susan my tutor developed a special study plan just for me, which helped me focus on my key weaknesses, without feeling de-motivated, in-fact I was so enthused by her, I actually looked forward to all my sessions. She is a brilliant tutor and I am so very grateful. I was able to increase my composite core by 100. I am very pleased.

Monica does a great job at explaining material that you may not understand in the classroom. You will have the opportunity to have a mathematics expert evaluate how you learn as an individual and teach you in the best way possible. She is very well the investment. I would highly recommend her to anyone that struggles with math or anyone who has aspirations of raising their grade.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.
