Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hang a TV in Atlanta?

The best TV mount installers in Atlanta charge different prices for their services, with some charging as low as $50. The price you’ll pay, however, will depend on several factors. The first is whether you have the TV stand already or need one provided, in which case you’ll have to pay for the part as well as the labor. Another is whether you want the wiring concealed. This takes extra work and may require routing the cables behind your wall. Keep in mind that some TV mounting companies have set fees while others may charge by the hour.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

  • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
  • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
  • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
  • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
  • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
  • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

What type of TV mount do I need?

There are several types of TV mounts, including fixed mounts, tilting mounts and full-motion mounts. A fixed mount is sturdy but offers no movement, and a tilting mount tilts vertically. A full-motion TV mount swivels and tilts for the maximum number of possible viewing options. You can also mount your TV from above with a ceiling TV mount. Whichever TV mount you choose, ensure it can support your TV’s weight and size. If you need help choosing and installing a TV mount, contact a TV wall mount installer near you.

I need to apologize for taking so long to write this review. Alex is hands down the man. He did everything I asked (and I'm very particular about my home theater setup) and more. Not only was he amazing, but he gave me the best price. I couldn't be more happy with Alex's work and I recommend him for anybody looking for a standard home theater setup. Work done: Alex mounted my 55" TV to the wall as well as my 7.1 speakers. He couldn't run the wires through the wall (due to my apartment's regulations) but did a fantastic job concealing them with white wiring (which matched the wall). Alex also adjusted the speaker levels within minutes and was finished with everything in about 2 hours. Quick, easy, and efficient. Alex is the man.

I needed my home theater taken down, moved to a new location, and set back up. Marcel did it the very next day, and the job is BEAUTIFUL. The TV and sound bar are flush mounted, and no cords are visible. The area was left clean, and he was fast and efficient. I highly recommend this pro, and I will definitely call him when I’m ready for another project.

To be perfectly honest, I initially picked Russel purely because his quote was the lowest I received on Thumbtack. Since there is a little bit of the 'bait and switch' that usually goes on when hiring professionals online, I thought that going with the lowest quote, along with the fact that I know a decent bit about home theater installs, will limit my "total" bill. Turns out, I needn't have worried at all. First thing I liked - I got a straight quote from Russel based on the description of my project. None of the "we need to come over to your place... free quote...yada, yada". I understand prices can change based on actual circumstances....but a ballpark number is always nice. No one wants a steady stream of installers walking through their homes, and/or ending up with a drawer-full of "free quotes". Next, on the day of the install - Russel called me first to let me know he is coming over, and then showed up on time. I respect folks who respect my time. Next, the work itself was professional - and I really mean that. As I said earlier, I know how to install a home theater; I have done it in the past. But Russel's works was outstanding! He put in all of my electronics into the media center (incl. drilling, etc.), routed and bundled all my wires, put in a panel into my main wall so I can connect additional components (without pulling the whole media center apart), etc. He even routed my speaker wires through the vents, which required that he put in a new access panel. When he was done, he cleaned up the work area. Here's the icing on the cake - even though Russel put in a wall panel and an access panel - my price stayed the same! He didn't even charge me for the hardware. No bait and switch! Unheard of in the age of Groupon and LivingSocial. Vent cleaning anyone? :) The bottom-line: Professional and honest service at a great price; with a great attitude to boot. If the need arises, I'd hire Russel again in a heartbeat.
