Dan and his team are AMAZING and I feel so grateful to have found them! They are excited to work on my home which included almost an entire remodel...Removing walls in the kitchen for an open floorpan, completely remodeling the kitchen, moving a bathroom, moving the laundry room upstairs and creating a mudroom in it's place. Building into unused attic space to create a walk in closet and bathroom in my daughter's bedroom and remodeling and rearranging our master bathroom. Not to mention all the new flooring, cabinets, and drywall where there was once popcorn ceilings. And they were EXCITED to do it. Most people I interviewed were overwhelmed at the task or WAY too expensive. He was priced fairly yet the work quality is far superior to other remodeled homes I have seen. Don't even waste your time with other companies. I love that I felt like we were working together as a team and he was always willing to spend time with me making sure I felt comfortable with each step!See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a plumber during the COVID-19 pandemic?

If possible, it’s best to set up a virtual consultation or phone call with a plumber near during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can send a message to a professional plumber near you and ask if they are available to video chat or have a phone call. Use that time to discuss the work that needs to be done. Make sure to ask any questions you have about the project. And lastly, ask the plumber how they handle payments and whether they have any specific safety precautions in place to comply with social distancing.

How can I find out if a plumber is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

Generally, plumbers are often considered essential service providers. Essential service providers vary from state to state and city to city, however. For the most accurate information, check your official state or city government website to see whether a plumber is considered an essential service in your area.

Read CISA’s publication on identifying critical workers to find out more information on a national level. Some, but not all, jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Are there ways to be safe if I hire a plumber when social distancing?

Contact plumbers near you beforehand to see if they can complete the project without entering your home — for example, by entering the garage to fix a broken water heater. If the plumber needs to enter your house to do the job, you should proceed only if both parties feel comfortable with the project. Consider taking extra steps such as waving instead of shaking hands, staying 6 feet apart, using digital payments and sanitizing common areas.

Can I use digital payments to pay for plumbing services?

Some plumbers accept digital payments -- Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, etc. -- for their services. Before you hire a plumber, ask them if they accept your preferred online payment. Many also feature digital payment options on their profiles. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, digital payments are typically considered safer than cash and credit cards.

Does a plumber need to enter my home?

A plumber will need to enter your home to fix plumbing issues like dripping faucets, clogged sinks or toilets and leaky pipes. They might not need to come into your home if the faulty appliance is located outdoors or in the garage. Before you begin the project, contact plumbers near you to find out they will need to enter your home.

Do plumbers offer remote or virtual services?

If you see a profile that states the plumber is offering remote services, contact the plumber before hiring them to see what those services include. Although plumbing is a job that has to be done in-person, you can ask them if they offer virtual consultations or an online walk-through.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

How much does it cost to repair a broken pipe?

The national average cost to repair broken pipes ranges from $120 to $170. Prices can vary depending on the type of damage, whether the pipe is easily accessible, the materials needed and where the pipe is located. For example, an exposed pipe under the sink will likely cost much less than a pipeline in your yard that requires digging.

Your overall cost will also depend on the hourly rate of the contractor. Most plumbers charge between $60 and $65 per hour for standard pipe repair, and up to $95 per hour for complex plumbing work.

What are the signs of a burst pipe?

If your water pressure has suddenly dropped or your sink and toilet have unexpectedly started clogging, you may have a burst pipe. Other tell-tale signs include watermarks on the wall of your bathroom or laundry room, drips or puddles in your home or basement, or water from your faucets that have suddenly turned brown. You may also notice a strange rotten-egg smell or the sound of gurgling water in your home.

If you notice any of these signs, contact a plumber near you to fix your pipes immediately.

Can a leaking pipe burst?

Yes. A leak in your pipe can build up pressure and wear through the material. Left unchecked, this pressure can cause the pipe to burst. This is why it’s so important to fix your pipes and contact a plumber as soon as you notice a leak — no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.

Smaller leaks are easier and inexpensive to fix, saving you time and money in the long run. In addition, many insurance policies will not cover water damage for pipes that burst due to gradual leaks.

I would highly recommend Chris and his company Rose Plumbing to anyone searching for plumbing services. Chris was able to quickly diagnose and fix my project for a very fair price. He was a class act and I will hire him again if and when I have any additional plumbing needs.

We needed a professional to exchange a leaky faucet hose; we had the part. Tore came and examined the situation stating I have a track home and the builders use the cheapest parts to build. He suggested we replace the two angle stops due to them being cheap and most likely the pressure from the water will knock them off and cause flooding. Tore mentioned those parts cost around $13 each. So I have around $26 in parts he needed to purchase (plus tax- he said everything has tax) and I had the hose for him to replace. He gave me an estimate for $452.58. I asked him if the remaining balance was for his labor and he said YES. He asked me what did I expect to pay? He also mentioned if we thought his prices were crazy wait until I hear from the other plumbing companies. I did not like his attitude or his demeanor. I felt like he was talking at me and as if I was incompetent. Needless to say we have since moved on to a more reasonable and professional plumbing company who replaced the hose & made sure there were no leakages once the job was done (took him less than 20 minutes) & we will replace all angle stops in the house) I will never suggest A to Z plumbing services to anyone I know.

I liked that this was a small private company so it wasn’t hard to get an appointment. He showed up when he said he would, but he informed me that I needed an extra part after he arrived to do the job. We had new countertops installed and needed the faucet and water lines to be turned back on by a plumber. My husband went to get the part since he was already out and Gary asked him to purchase plumber’s putty because he didn’t have any. We got the parts here with no delay to his work. At first, I was happy to have everything back intact and seeing my new countertops. After he left we ran the dishwasher and it was making odd noises. We figured it there was no water going to it. We called Gary and asked him why it was not working. Long story short- Gary charged us more money to come out and turn the water valve on to the dishwasher. It seems like he needs every penny he can get. As a plumber, one would have thought he would make sure it all working and back to operating order. I was very clear that we had gotten new countertops and needed someone to put everything back together as the counter company doesn’t specialize in plumbing. I feel a larger company tends to go that extra mile and be thorough.
