DJ Suave did an excellent job in helping us plan our wedding and for our wedding day. Although there was some technical issues (the stereo blaring right after I walked down the aisle), it really helped lighten the mood because I was a crying mess and it got me laughing. Before the wedding, he met up with us and kept in touch with me a few days before to follow up. He immediately responded to song requests during the reception and got people up and dancing. Thank you for helping us put on a fun party. It was something we will never forget!

Zoe is so great to work with. She is professional, punctual & creative. Unlike most, Zoe will send you ALL the pictures taken during a photo shoot. She gives you the freedom to select exactly what photos you want without her sorting thru them prior to sending to client for review. Aside from professional looking photos, we really wanted a photographer that would capture candid, real moments. She did that beautifully! I'm not comfortable getting my photo taken. But she's so fun and makes you feel comfortable, that it was a fun experience. The photos taken of our wedding not only are professional and vivid in color/detail, but they capture the energy/magic of our special day. She caught candid moments with our friends and family. It's a day we will always remember and am excited to have it captured with her photos!

Paul and Stephanie of Emerald City Cakes and Chocolates (and their crew!) did an amazing job for our wedding reception in Seattle, WA on 4 October 2014! I would recommend them to anyone looking for a caterer! Our reception was held in a very small venue (with no kitchen) and they went above and beyond to provide hot and delicious food to our guests! They arrived at around 2 PM to get set up and worked almost until 11 PM that evening. We hired them to do everything: food, drinks, the cake, and bartending (no uncorking fee either!). Paul, Stephanie, and crew are the nicest people who genuinely enjoy their jobs and it really shows in the service they provide and their attention to detail. Their prices are also extremely reasonable and they were willing to create a menu that fit with our needs (some-what dairy free) and theme (Oktoberfest-fusion). We currently live in Chicago, so everything had to be arranged via e-mail and both Paul and Stephanie made a great effort to make sure all of our questions were answered in a timely manner. Now, here it is. The food. The food! Our guests are still raving about the food! There was plenty of food provided and it was delicious. Some of the highlights: The bacon-beer-cheese sauce for the potatoes (or for some guests: the sauce for everything), the potatoes themselves, the tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches, the pretzel bites, the bratwurst, the squash ravioli - I would probably just list the whole menu if I could remember it all. We also chose the Tuxedo cake and it was phenomenal! As a bride, I didn't have to worry about anything. When it was time for the toasts, they had the champagne flutes ready to go. When it was time to cut the cake, it was ready and waiting for us. There was more food than our guests could even eat (a feat of its own!), and Paul offered to donate the leftovers for us. Paul, Stephanie, and crew provided genuinely outstanding service for our wedding reception and allowed us to simply relax and spend time with our families and friends. I wish we could be more regular customers, but at least now we have a go-to caterer for any more events we may have in the Seattle area! Highly recommended! Such a great find! Thanks again, Paul and Stephanie, for making our wedding day fun and memorable!

We just watched our wedding video! It was an amazing video that we will treasure forever! It is clear that Dan devoted so much time this video- making sure all of the details, guests, and special moments were captured! The wedding day is a blur because there was so much going on, but with this video it brought back so many great memories and many things we didn't even see! Dan arrived to the venue on time and went above and beyond our expectations! I would highly recommend him to be your videographer!!

We highly recommend Kyle! He was excellent and so nice. He was creative and very easy to work with. He had great ideas for locations which was a big help to us from being out of the area. Kyle also is very willing to help with other wedding services due to his contacts from his photography career from working other weddings and knowing many vendors. From the pictures we have gotten so far we love them!

Jason was amazing! I am a first-time married, mid-life bride so capturing our event with great photos was top priority for me. Jason delivered! He was organized, on-time and had even scoped out areas for optimal photos at and around our venue in advance of the wedding day. He was fun, flexible, creative and made great use of the time we had hired him for. I highly recommend Jason for any photography needs and will most definitely be using him again in the future. A huge thank you to Jason for the fabulous photos of our special day - we will treasure them for many years to come!

I couldn't have been made a better choice hiring Alex to shoot our wedding day. Alex was one of the first vendors I hired for my April 2017 wedding. My now-husband and I decided at the beginning of October to move the wedding up to Halloween 2016. Alex was extremely flexible and accommodating on such short notice. The communication between us was always prompt, and I appreciated that I felt like a priority, which was not something I had with a few other vendors. Day of, Alex was professional and personable. All of the staged and family shots are beautiful, but my favorite pictures from Alex are the candid ones. There are some beautiful moments that I will forever be grateful Alex captured for me and my family. The cherry on the top was when I received all of my pictures back after only ten days.

Timothy was excellent!! We had a very small wedding few family and friends and he did an amazing job. We met him a few days before the ceremony so we could go over what we liked and how we wanted it all to go. We just did the traditional vows and it was perfect. He is a very sweet man and he was perfect for the day that we will remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you Timothy for making our day just as perfect as I have always imagined.

Katrina was absolutely awesome to work with. She helped us feel completely at ease on our wedding day and captured some of the most memorable and candid shots we've had together, as a couple and as a family, despite the crazy, rainy weather. We could not have been happier or more satisfied with a photographer.

Debbie made our wedding day very special with her wonderful cake and cupcakes! She sat through horrible traffic to make the delivery on time. Her set up was beautiful and her cake was delicious. You won't find a better deal for the quality of work anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. She was sweet and professional. We could not be happier. Hire her for your special day. She is amazing.

Every single experience with Divya has been such a pleasure! She did makeup for my bridal portraits (AND hair!) boudoir portraits and for my wedding. Even when we were on a time straint for our wedding she got everyone's makeup done flawlessly. She is so very professional and talented and really knows how to flatter your skin with the right makeup!! One of my bridesmaids is in a wedding in December and she is planning to use Divya! She's the best!!

We had Stephen cater our wedding on 8/29. It was by far the most painless process ever. From the get go, Stephen was a breeze to work with and removed all the stress from dealing with feeding 100 wedding guests. His price was very fair especially given the amazing quality of the food. Im still getting compliments on how delicious and fun the food was at our wedding! Will book Dogfather again for any future events!

We are so happy with our wedding photos (all 351 of them) and our wedding video. Our family and friends commented on how they watched it over and over again and how Jonas and Tatiana captured a feeling of love at the event. They came to our venue in Monterey and scouted the venue before our event, so that on day of the wedding they were very prepared to capture our day. They were responsive to all our questions and took in consideration all the things we wanted in our video. We just absolutely love how it turned out. Thank you guys :)

Achong Photography was recommended to me and I couldn’t be happier!! Andrew Achong was able to capture my wedding even better than what I remember (and I thought that was impossible). The most nerve racking thing is wondering what service you are getting, with Achong Photography you have none of that! Andrew takes the time to get to know you and understands your needs and wants. He’s amazing and I am paying it forward and recommending him again and again!!!

We weren't sure if a video for our wedding was a good investment at first. But we are so glad we did. This was the most important and memorable thing we have from our wedding day. We will never forget how we felt. By far the best investment you can make for your wedding. 10/10

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
