What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. After trying to work out by myself for several years I decided it was time to get a personal trainer. I sought recommendations and I got an overwhelming thumbs up for Troy. Now I have been working out with him for over four months and I am deeply satisfied. He has helped me break several platues, better understand proper nutrition, and is always ready and willing to answer any of my questions. Currently he is helping me correct my posture which has become disfigured due to growth spurts and is helping me strengthen my chest which - due to my disfigured posture - has become weak. Sometimes it seems endless his different techniques and exercises to assist in getting me to my goal. He is a great trainer and I would recommend him to anyone.

When I met Colby in fall 2016 I wanted a trainer who could help me improve my running, climbing and cycling, performance through functional strength training, specifically to design a program to work in tandem with my marathon training program, hoping to shave a good amount off my time and set a new PR at LA 2017. He listened carefully to my goals and designed a plan to support my sports performance. After that, week by week(some where I wasn’t even sure I liked Colby too much anymore as I cursed at him in my head, too out of breath and half dying to be able to curse out loud) he lead a challenging, inventive and always fun work out. One of the greatest things about Colby, and the one thing that you need to get results, is consistency, in effort, in diet, even in recovery days. He knew when to push, and when to back off, he always created a safe environment for me to train and get stronger. He always brought 100%, and his only ask was that I did too. As the marathon season progressed, I noticed my short and long runs were getting easier, and I started moving up pace groups. I was also climbing higher grades than I ever had, and crushing classic Malibu rides on my road bike that previously left me shaking to even think about (I’m looking at you Piuma to Stunt to Mulholland to Las Virgenes 😳😳😳). When LA came around on March 19th, I ran 2 pace groups higher and crossed the finish line 47 minutes faster than the year before. Love the dude. Whatever you’re trying to do, I honestly know he’ll help you get there. Just don’t let him talk you into skydiving.

Finding a personal trainer that's right for you is kind of like finding a therapist: you have to try out a few. Well, I lucked out and upon my first meeting with Carlos, I knew I would end up going with him. Carlos is always super laid back and conversational, which is important to me, as it makes me feel mentally comfortable doing exercises that usually make me self-conscious. Instead of being afraid of the gym, I look forward to it each and every time I had a 1:1 with Carlos. He really cares and was interested in exactly what *I* wanted to see, results-wise. On top of his genial personality, he still kicked my ass - in a good way. I'm the kind of person that needs to be pushed, and he definitely does that, but with good fun. Definitely recommend!

I am an athlete at heart and I found myself completely unhappy with my body and health about a year ago. After trying to work on my self esteem first, I decided in September it was time to get back into fitness like I had been my whole life. I came on thumbtack and scheduled meetings with five different trainers. I met with JJ first and cancelled the rest before I even had a workout with him. Honestly I hired him only based off of his personality and game plan for for getting me back into shape. He literally is one of the funniest people I have met. However he doesn't mess around when it's time to work. And each workout I find that he can push me to limits I didn't know I had. I have lost 24 pounds so far but have become so much stronger and healthier. We weight lift, do cardio, and he has taught me personal defense. I was skeptical paying money to get fit but I'm investing in my health and it truly makes me happy. (He is going to make fun of me for getting sappy on this but whatever he deserves it)

Where to begin... Rachel is an amazing motivator, who's not only professional in her approach, but has a background in fitness that you can trust in her abilities.. She is for everyone at every level looking to be healthy, and break into their optimum strength. But speaking from where I started. That's where this true story begins. If you're like me who's known for some time it's "time" to get your health in order, and you need to lose weight, she's the one to train with. She's beyond the words to describe. Let me try though... To start with how hard it is to imagine when you have a lot of weight to lose to get into a gym and not be faced with judgement, or feel like you will stick out like a sore thumb in a world of "workout" types around you. First the gym she teaches in has at most 6 people in it. Then she's utterly compassionate to anything you have to say to her about how embarrassing it is for you and protects you so you feel comfortable. Then to add she won't push you harder then she can see your body will go, then breaks in your body so you never leave feeling defeated. Then before you know it, and please please believe me, she will break you into things you felt you wouldn't be able to do even in 4 weeks. She takes care of you in so many ways. I'm losing weight but not even that, I'm gaining love towards the process, and she modifies and cares for your body. She's got a heart of gold, and honestly cares. The best part is watching her investment in you, and when the results show how she praises and celebrates like it's her own victory. If you read this review and you relate to anything I'm saying... You with no doubt are in the right hands. She's so dedicated, and you will appreciate her skill and devotion to your health. I am so thankful for this site, and it leading me to her.
