Maggie setup an ice cream bar for our wedding and it was fantastic! I requested a honey lavender flavor and she made a few recipes for me to try before the big day. I thought that was really sweet. She showed up right on time and had cute signs for the flavors and toppings. She even dropped off the leftovers to my house afterward. I really enjoyed working with Maggie and would recommend her to anyone that needs catering :)

Easy to work with! Just forgot to bring all of the ice I had requested. Otherwise, I would recommend Kim and Kyle!

Wonderful group of caterers. Incredibley kind and accommodating. Packed and stored all the delicious left overs, cleaned up the kitchen and brought a great bartender as well. The only criticism is that the salads were over dressed and thus soggy, but still had great flavor. I would definitely hire them again.

We chose Samm to be the pastry chef for our Wedding in August. She was very responsive and helpful making dessert choices in our budge. She made my peanut butter & Jelly dessert dreams come true. We chose 3 small delicious cakes (chocolate w/cookies n' cream, Lemon raspberry, white cake with peanut butter &jelly filling). We also chose macarons (vanilla bean, pb&j) as well as amazing donuts glazed with pb&j! Everything looked beautiful and coordinated well with the decor. The details were executed impeccably, she even put edible flowers on the macarons for decoration. I would highly recommend Samm for any event!

Chef Richardson did an outstanding job for our Valentine's Day. He provided an initial menu and happily made changes to fit our tastes. It was a total surprise for my wife who has special dietary needs due to a gastric bypass 7 years ago and a recent operation on her stomach. In the end, he made us an amazing 4 cheddar cheese fondue, angel hair pasta with a pesto gorgonzola cream sauce and balsamic glazed chicken, and the desert was a white chocolate and raspberry cheese cake with Oreo crust. My wife loved it all and had no problems at all with any of the food. Chef Richardson was pleasant the entire time as we chatted about many different topics. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

3 Sons Premier Catering exceeded our expectations for our wedding day! They invited us in for a free tasting, and we loved everything they fed us! Such delicious Italian food! They made that decision easy for us. Michael was such a delight to work with. You can tell he is very passionate about his cooking, and you can taste it! His crew took care of so much for us beyond the dinner for our wedding. They helped with the set up of chairs/tables for our ceremony and reception. They prepared the champagne toast, did the cake cutting and serving, also provided a bartender for the whole reception. They came around and cleaned up after the dinner, toasts, and cake. Our venue did not have an ice maker, so Michael offered to bring up coolers full of ice which worked out perfect and took more stress off our shoulders. They also stayed after the wedding was over to clean up everything. Our venue had a pretty extensive cleaning checklist for after the wedding, which I thought we would have to do ourselves. But they insisted that they would do it! They took care of it all for us, all included with the total price! That was a big relief for us! They really went above and beyond to make our wedding day perfect and stress free! Cannot thank you enough 3 Sons Italian!!!

I hired Details, Darling for my engagement party and I would use her for any party I have in the future- I was very specific with what I wanted and she nailed it with every aspect, even down to the beautiful specialty ice cubes she made to match my color theme! She offered both amazing cocktails and fun non alcoholic options which I loved. She was great with communication getting back to me right away with any questions I had, she was on time professional and respectful of my home.

Grant came to cook dinner for us and a few of our friends. The dinner was fantastic. He came prepared for everything, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, everything. We spent part of the evening chatting with him while he made our dinner and hours d'ourves. When we finally dragged ourselves away from asking Grant about 100 questions about cooking, we sat down to dinner and were presented with three beautifully prepared and presented courses, each one delicious. We had a zuchini salad to start, a steak for a main and a pavlova for desert. For me the Pavlova was the best, it was a dish I had grown up with my mom making for special occasions and Grant stepped it up a notch with berry cream and muddle strawberries. It was amazing! We will have Grant cook for us again and again.

Lucia was fun and easygoing to work with. The food is good and the cost very reasonable. She made a dish called Chicken Marbella that was sensational! She made her own ice-cream and the dessert was out of this world. I would have her cater for us again.

We booked with them for our fall-themed wedding after seeing their menus and the fun things they had come up with when we met with Renee. As a couple we found that they were very responsive to both of our needs, they were especially great with a few tricky requests and substitutions on the dessert buffet. Overall I am so happy that we went with dessert through Little Bites Bakery. As a frequent guest of catered events, I always feel like dessert is an afterthought for many caterers. It was clear that dessert is a passion for them when we met and that showed through in the quality of their work. Definitely recommend this dynamic duo to anyone! I already booked them again for a refreshment station and snacks for my besties bridal shower. Oh and PS. three words: TRY THEIR DONUTS. You will not regret it, promise!

They have done several of our company events and we have always been very satisfied with their service. When attending our Halloween events they have gotten into the spirit by dressing up and bringing Halloween themed materials with them. They are always on time, easy to work with, professional and friendly. I recommend this Cold Stone for all of my ice cream events.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

      • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
      • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
      • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
      • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
      • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
