Tona is great to work with. I had my first lesson today and I already feel that she is genuinely supportive and there to help me overcome my anxiety with singing. She can personalize each lesson and teach whatever techniques are unique for that person's stage of vocal development. She listens to your concerns and goals and is able to work the lessons to your liking. She is also easy to talk to and open to feedback. She works with you to build whatever you need help with and provides the knowledge and experience to back up the lesson.

My two teenage daughters and I trained with David, our instructor, with Falcon Security. It was the best decision we have ever made! Not only did we learn skills to protect ourselves, but we now feel empowered! I know my daughters will be more careful and ready at a momemt's notice to defend and protect themselves, heaven forbid should they need to! As for myself, I have a true confidence that should I find myself in an unsafe situation, I can handle it without a shadow of a doubt. David was spot on with his lessons. He conveyed what can happen to any of us but did so in a professional way. I know he really cared about our well-being and he took our lessons to heart every session. He pointed out scenarios that the girls have never yet contemplated and then gave them the skills to handle what ever can happen. At 17 and 18 it was time for them to learn self defense. David was awesome and I couldn't be happier with the results!

I am having an incredible experience working with Debbie Kirkland. What a pro! I have only had a couple lessons, but she has been so patient helping a novice such as myself. Debbie is big on technique, and her comprehensive approach (even getting me down on a mat to show me proper breathing and placement) shows her commitment to her students. I feel like the foundation I am building will serve me well as I progress in my lessons. Even though it’s challenging and frustrating at times, I’m excited every time I go for my lesson. Debbie’s enthusiasm and passion for her craft make it enjoyable, and I’m grateful I found her and look forward to continuing my training under her direction.

My experience with Mr. Penney is unparalleled and unequal with respect to any other voice teacher I've ever had. I thought a longtime voice teacher was the best until she passed away and I had to find a new teacher. Then I found Mr. Penney and I've never looked back. Everyone noticed a difference in my voice once I started lessons with him. He hears things in your voice like no one else and he is able to translate that into advice and guidance that enables his students of all ages to reach their potential and their goals.

Don is a very accomplished guitarist with a wealth of knowledge. It shows that he is eager to impart his knowledge. I had my first lesson with him today and I learned so much. He incorporates music theory in to his lessons to show us why things are played the way they are and where they originated from. He was patient and very encouraging. His soloing skills are phenomenal and I am excited to learn from him. I highly recommend him to musicians of all levels. He is now my jazz guitar guru! Hail to the Guitar Chief Don!

I've had a great experience learning to play from Morgan. He's accessible, flexible, and makes learning an instrument doable and fun. He learned early on that I love Neil Young and has been helping me learn how to play some of my favorite songs. It's been a real pleasure working with him and I highly recommend him as an instructor.

I've been playing acoustic guitar for the past 7 years, but never took lessons or learned any theory, which led me to hit a plateau and a loss of interest. After a couple of sessions with Stevie, I was able to connect previous experience with new guitar knowledge in order to play more creatively and have more fun doing so.

My 9 year old son has only been taking lessons for two months, so this is a very limited experience, but we plan to stick around! Magdalina is very kind and patient with him, explaining the new lesson without rushing, commending him on homework well done, and encouraging his interest. He loves his piano lessons and looks forward to them. Magdalina's schedule works very well for me, as I was able to pick a convenient time. She was very flexible when I asked to reschedule a couple of times. Also, the lesson environment is very pleasant - it's clean and spacious.

My daughter had lessons with Michelle for several years. She helped her voice improve so much that her high school choir teacher commended my daughter for the improvement. She just started in college and auditioned successfully for their concert choir. Michelle is patient, extremely knowlegeable about choral music and able to translate that passion to kids. We drove an hour each way for several years for lessons. Well worth it and would recommend her highly. Feel free to contact me for more info, by email beth_muller@ymail.com or phone 703.220.4973

Working with Cass Fitness, and Samantha in particular, has been a wonderful experience so far. Samantha has been on point with her professional demeanor. She is timely and organized, and most importantly, fun to work with. I have only had about two weeks of lessons and can already see some incremental results.

My daughter needed an advanced level teacher and we found Alhy on Thumbtack. On our first meeting my daughter knew she was the teacher she wanted. Our search was over. She has already taught her a lot in just 2 lessons.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
