Thumbtack, leading up to the job the owner, who is Ed explained our options for our attic as we recently had a roof installed and **** Roofing left us a mess. Ed recommended new R30 to satisfy the code for the winter and now it looks brand like new. Ask for Luis the GM -c

I really wish I could give 5 stars, but unfortunately I can't and I will tell you why. For starters, Rudy and his men did a fantastic job. We moved into a house that supposedly had the roof done but it was completed in such a poor way that we needed to use seller credit to redo it. We initially had contacted Rudy on 4/19 to complete our roof within 2-4 weeks of initial contact. It rained a bunch of times thereafter, so we understood the delay, plus the dumpster he uses wasn't ready. No problem, completely understandable. Unfortunately we couldn't get a hold of him for roughly a week and we were wondering if he had taken our money and run. Fortunately this wasn't the case and the job was completed 5 weeks after we had contacted him. I am glad we did give him the benefit of the doubt because it paid off. He had at least 5 guys here working on the roof and finishing it in a day. They worked really hard and it shows. Rudy called me and told me about some rotting wood underneath the shingles. You never know what contractors can say to get an extra buck, but he sent pictures to me proving this, which I was grateful for, so I didn't mind adding an extra 200 for him to fix that piece along with replacing a missing beam the jokers from the previous roofing job didn't put in. After he was done, we talked about the repairs and the gutter situations we had. Whoever did the gutters also did a bad job. He explained the problem and what he could do to fix it for us. I will be calling him again to fix the gutters since he quoted me at a very fair price. After they wrapped up the job, they left the place spotless and even cleared the standing water out of my gutters for me. Honestly, the waiting period sucked, but it paid off because this job was done very well and his communication that day was top notch. Hopefully the delay with this was a one time thing. He is an honest guy who works hard to get the job done properly, so I will be using his company again.

Brandon Construction was very reasonably priced and the quality of work was excellent. I was so impressed with their professionalism and prompt service that instead of one job, I had them completed seven different jobs ranging from hardwood floor replacement (3 rooms), widening doors, opening a wall to add counter space and painting. All works was done efficiently - most within one day for each job. When I had to select materials (granite/ flooring, etc.) they recommended vendors that have quality materials and knowledgeable staff as well as reasonable pricing. Every step of the process was easy and the results were amazing. I am so pleased!!!! I would highly recommend them for any home improvement needs. They are really great to work with.

My new parents need a new roof and two new skylights replaced on their townhouse. We got 5 quotes from Thumbtack and Steve (Caliber Roofing) was the best price for the overall project. Steve was very good with communicating about when they will start the project. On the day of project, Steve and his crew showed up on time and the job was finished around the time that he said they would. They also cleaned up after themselves nicely. Steve was there the whole time managing and at times working on the roof himself also. As for the workmanship, I can't really tell because the roof is too high for me to get on. But from the outside, everything looks perfect. Since the roof and skylights replacement about two weeks ago, we have had two separate days where we had a lot of rains and my parents haven't noticed any water leak inside the house. So I would say they did a great job. Overall, I am very happy with Steve's company and service and I would highly recommend Caliber Roofing to my friends and family if they are in need of roofing needs.

Chris was beyond excellent, he came prepared and on time. He was constantly communicative given the issues that we experienced on March 2, 2018, (great wind storm of 2018). He met with me the Monday after that storm and listened to all my questions, which were written down, he was calm and patient, even when I told him that I was getting a total of three roof replacement quotes. The value, responsive, and professionalism guarantees that we will hire Window Source of VA for future projects. Our new roof looks great! We couldn't even tell that they were there. The property looked pristine and we are very pleased customers. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to have quality work done. From the office, management, and employees they are top notch! Thank you all for your outstanding work!

I hired Joseph for several small jobs around my house. Jobs included patching drywall in two rooms, repairing a porch, staining a deck, and inspecting a possible leak from the roof. He was on-site each day and made sure that everything got done to my satisfaction. He's definitely committed to making sure his clients are happy with his work, and I'll be using him again.

Alex's service was outstanding. His crew painted the laid down bamboo flooring on the 1st floor. Paint job was excellent. His flooring guy, Marvin, was very good. Price was reasonable. The crew was punctual and arrived on time every day (early morning). He and his crew also did some other small repairs that were discovered as the project started. Overall, I am very happy with the service and would definitely hire him again for any other jobs.

TEO Construction did an excellent job. The roofers were punctual and efficient. Roofing is a dirty job with a lot of racket. However, they kept the exterior clean and the racket to a minimum (we left the house for most of the day). My only complaint/suggestion is that a homeowner may want to move or cover any plants or shrubbery close to the home as they may get damaged by falling debris.

Brandon was very professional, efficient, explained everything to me so I could understand because I know nothing about roofing, priced lower than his competitors, but didn’t take shortcuts, and he performed the roof repair himself. Give him the opportunity to earn your business and you won’t be disappointed!

We had a poorly built roof over our patio that was damaged by the wind. I found kutai enterprises on thumbtack and asked him to come look at the roof and give us an estimate. Not only did he beat the first estimate, but he took a construction disaster and made it into something to be proud to show off. The roof is much safer and definitely more appealing to the eye. Will definitely hire these guys again. Couldn't be more happier with their work. Would definitely recommend kutai enterprises.

The experience of hiring NOVA Exteriors, working with the appraiser, and having the roof done quickly and as promised was a seamless experience. After many weeks of rain, the roofers were able to install the new roof quickly, and it looks great! We also have peace of mind knowing that their work is guaranteed, too. Will definitely check with NOVA Exteriors again for future remodeling projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
